Might be getting one of these in a few weeks. The 1.9TDi. Always prefered the look of the Leon over the Golf which I find bland and dull looking. I like VAG build quality though.

Just wondering on people's opinions on them are.

my mate's got one of the sporty ones - seems pretty good to be honest, handles well and comfortable although the ride's a touch hard: prob different on non sports models though. Would imagine the engine's almost bullet proof too...

they are very nice motors si. and like you say, it a VW basically. theres a lot of torque as well from the tdi.

I like the VAG lineup. Had a few as company cars in the past too - Passat 1.8T, A4 1.8SE, A3 1.6sport and nearly bought a A4 2.6Q before I opted for my first 300zx instead.

The Seat range is the "stylish" versions :) (VW being the everyday family version, skoda being the "value" range and Audi being the classy range).

isnt the 1.9 the old 104bhp lump?? You would be better getting the 2.0 if you have the choice!

No, there's a huge range of different power rated diesels ranging from a dowdy 70hp non turbo in the early cars to a 150hp unit in the higher spec later cars.

2.0 TDi is in the current Leon.

My mate has a diesel, the top sports version whatever its called and im sure it is 170hp?

i used to sell seats and the 150 diesel is a great car looks just like the cupra. but my company car at the time was a cupra r 225. loved it. the new cupra has a twin spool turbo so it is a lot more gentle on accelerating. toy dont get stuck to the back of the seat in the new one. the diesal is good but i prefer the petrol.

Hi,

I recently had a Seat Leon TDi whilst on holiday in Menorca. It was the latest shape car though. It felt quite sporty and handled quite well, plus the TDi diesel engine made it quite fast too!

I looked up the spec when I got home and it would appear to have an engine out of the Golf.

Excellent cars, get the 1.9 PD150 get it chipped and say hello 185bhp+ minimum

Surely high powered diesels and chipping them, defeats the object of a diesel car  :headvswal

I'd probably do the same myself :wack: But it just seems pointless.

Depends how heavy the right foot is, driven sensibly (boring) they give better mpg. Anyway if you own Z who cares, we all like speed at any cost!:D

And if all else fails make friends with a chip shop owner who uses veg oil

Another car, Si.......;)

I have a mate with the latest shape one as a company car and it's pretty nice. I have bought Golf GT TDis for a couple of salesmen in my company and the Seat is every bit as good IMO. Brand new I'd pick the Golf for better residual value later on, but second had it would be the Seat all the way!

I'm getting the newer one now. Black too. Went down to Seat today to have a ganger and I quite like them. The dashboard looks a misery on the page, but in real life, it feels nice. Has a bigger feel to the front of the cabin than my Mondeo!

Quite a slippery shape, so should make cleaning a right doddle!

Company car. Just using up the end of a lease. I'll order a new one at the end of the year. Quite like the new Citroen C5....I know, I know, a Citroen, but the new C5 not only looks good, it seems to have pretty good build quality.

i borrowed the leon FR 170 bhp diesel for a few days and i loved it, not many cars with the kind of leg room in the back as the seats but TBH i then borrowed the altea FR, same chassis, same engine, slightly softer ride and more space inside and in the boot and imho was the better car!! i know the leon looks nicer but i would live with the altea much better having a family ;)

Hi,

One thing I did find was that the ride was quite firm...which was ok on the smooth Menorcan roads, but may not be so good on the UK's potholed streets!...And the steering seemed a bit too light too.

I would definately now consider a SEAT as a daily car though, as generally it was quite impressive!...Would probably have to be the more family orientated Altea model though.

Cheerz,

Jez.

Well I have it now. Absolutely identical to the black one I posted, same wheels etc. Fully loaded, sports seats/suspension. Really really nice car to drive. Very happy with it. Great handling and nice little steering wheel. Quite impressed to be honest. The more I drive it and throw it around, the more I like it.
