I have had these for about 5 years and when i removed them from my old car they are starting to look there age. A number of the fins on the front of them have crumbled away, will this affect there performance and is there anyway to recondition them? I will take some pictures later and post them up.

The fins are just thier to guide the air intothe core, as long as the core isn't damaged then the cooling process will be the same. If the fins are bent over the surface area this will affect the cooling a little.

I'm not sure how you would go about getting them reconditioned and I suppose would it be worth it for the minimal improvement, I guess it depends on what area is effected.

A lot of the fins are simply broken off, the core is fine. If they are just to guide the air then it really shouldnt have that much effect as you say.

that's not what the fins are for - they are there to increase surface area and therefore cooling; otherwise, the most efficient intercooler would just have a massive air scoop and an exposed core!

as above^^^^^^^^^^^ the fins are the to increase surface area and there main job is to act as heat soaks just like water radiators
