how bad is it if my mate has lost the log book for his car,

then: i bought it off him for a bargain,

now hes moved out the country and i need to get the log book to sell it

Featured Replies

not that bad.....

apply for a new one in your name, DVLA will see it still registered to your mate, they write him a letter and ask him if he has sold it, if he doesnt respond in a certain time limit which he won't as he has left they will issue you with a new log book... It will take a while, but it can be done..

There are other ways, but I won't go into them as they are a :nono:

go into your local dvla office, fill out the reg form, pay your £25, then you have to wait for up to 6 weeks for it to come through. ive just had to do it myself.

but ya fooked if its cause you need it to tax it as its in his old addy and you didnt recieve the reminder, you may have to sorn it till the matter is resolved

if the car is still registered in his name then he foots the bills for it, including speed cameras. you can apply for a log book with a V62 sent to the DVLA but it can take up to 6 weeks. the V62 will then be sent to the registered keeper, i.e. your mate, whereever his registered address is.

No probs... by the way if you want to sell the zed.... make sure you subscribe to the forum ;)

yeah. fookin tell me about it. i had to put the pug on mates bloody drive till the log book come through so i could tax it. been having to use the zed, so if it rained i stayed in lol.

I carried on using mine.

I was insured and MOT'd so F**ck it. You can't possibly get tax so they can't say alot.

At the end of the day you can backdate tax to the beginning of the month (and you have to) so, if you tax it on the 29th of june, the 'start date' is 1st June, so you've paid tax from the 1st of June so why not bloody use it.

No judge in the world would really agree you are in the wrong. What if it was your only car and you have to get to work ?

Do it, get caught, take a slap on the wrist, blag your way out of it and don't do it again.

or they throw the book at you for failure to display and driving an uninsured vehicle (no tax invalidates insurance)

Firstly welcome to the nut house. Glad yo have found it of use now you sem to be getting rid of your car.

You can still get tax without the new log book. When you bought it you should have kept a piece of the log book, the seller sends off the other piece, take this to the post office with MOT and insurance and you will be able to tax it.

Obviously if you don't have this bit then you are srewed.

yeah thats all well and good but now they tow the bloody thing off the side of the road and charge you as its not road legal !

Coopers I dont think his friend had the logbook so he hasn't got a green slip.

How can having no tax invalidate insurance when you need VALID insurance to get tax ;)

Oh well they've gotta catch you first
