I have recently fitted an upgraded rad cap with a pressure release of 1.3 bar.

I am losing coolant and when the engine stops and all is quite, I can hear a hissing and spitting right at the back of the plenum. I can see 2 large hoses and have tightened the clamps but ther seems to be somthing that I cannot see but I can hear hissing and spiting and it sound like drop of water hitting something and then fizzing (evaporating).

Is this a common problem and more to the point, is it an easy fix?

I could go back to the old cap but that seemms pointless!!

Thank you in advance,

Andy

Heater matrix pipes maybe.

Had this on mine last month. They tend to split under pressure.

It probably started as a pin hole and then turned into a little gash, They will start to steam water out of the hole until it expands then it will drop your coolant over the floor. Usually only happens when the car is hot and the engine is switched off.

The hoses themselves are £15 each from Mike Feeney but take a little time to replace as you need to get your hands down the back of the engine.

Did both of mine in 4 hours.

Yep, agree with stu, heater matrix pipes. Be careful mate, because when they split it doesnt take long for them to completely rupture, it cost me a head gasket once!

Yes i'd put the old cap back on till fixed, might save them going when your out somewhere !

But I like my new shiny rad cap!!

It's not fair!!!!!!

Lots of toys going out of the pram when I get home from work!!!

Shitty old cap it is then........:(

Little tips when changing them.

Get a little foot stool by the side of the drivers wing (the backs of your legs will kill you the next day otherwise).

Cut the old ones off :) saves time.

Be careful not to loose the clips.

Put the bottom of the new one(s) on first nice and tight then worry about the top.

Or get an old sofa cushion put it on the wing and you can rest your whole bodyweight on the car, and use washing up liquid to ease putting the hoses back on!

mine went the other week too, not too bad of a job just a bit fiddley

Dont want to sound like im all doom and gloom but i bet you that the next hose to go once youve done these will be the coolant turdo hoses, they are even fiddlier to get to.

Have fun!!

yep i had to do them too, 8 hours later and i was jumping for joy, mind you i did'nt have to remove anything but its a lot easier without the gearbox in the way, lol.
