Hi all, could anyone out there give me any ideas.

Ive just bought a 300zx non turbo of the dreaded ebay and now i have it home it wont run quite right.

Car will start with a touch on the acc pedel and theres no smoke out of exhaust at all

But ticks over very lumby, then dies when reves fall, n when driving theres very little power only makes about 40mph.

 

Any ideas where to start looking?

Coil packs etc?

Hi and welcome to the club, Does it rev over 2500 rpm?

check the wires/ connectors to the ptu, which is at the front of the engine just below the left air intake. Maf (air flow meter) may need a clean ,but be careful as the filament is very delicate, and most likely cause is the temp sensor (yellow plug) on the water pipe front of engine, tends to have corroded conection, give a good clean, there are several other items it could be, but elimante these first.

First things first, welcome to the club

 

Im sorry mate, but did you try before you buy????

 

Check the plugs and see what condition they are in, clean the contacts on the MAF (black box after the air filter) water temp sensors (yellow and black sensors on front water pipe at front of the engine) CAS (round metal object sticking out of r/h cam cover) and TPS (throttle position sensor, black squared sensor on rh throttle body)

 

This should keep you occupied for an hour or so, and if it still aint right im sure someone else maybe able to narrow it down some more

Yea will rev while standing no problems, and it looks like it has new plugs in.

To be truefull i didnt try but i got it for cheap and will scrap but would like to have it for a while as its motd n taxed.

 

will have a look at ptu tonight as downloaded some trouble shoting pages from net.
