My sister and brother in law went to great lengths to get a big screen TV which was HD ready and it don't mean jack sh1t! cos they don't wanna pay loads more a month for sky HD or HD DVD's.

My PS3 plays them i think, but obviously my TV won't so hey ho' i guess i'll keep watchin normal DVD's and spend extra money on my car :D

Yep the PS3 will play them but with a normal TV you might as well just have a normal DVD, I still buy normal DVD's

Whats your PS3 online user name??

LOL, don't have one, don't really play on it TBH, it is basically for my little brother :smash:

Been toying with the idea of a new Tele but, not much point coz then as said in a few of the above posts, u have to pay extra for Sky HD and Blu-Ray discs etc. I'll just wait till they are old technology and a lot cheapr !!! By which time there'll be something 100 times better lol

Abso-bloody-exactly! I'll do the same :D

I don't.................................thats why i watch TV

HD is new. There's still improvements being made all the time. I'd advise anyone to wait a while because there's still one hell of a lot of refinements to be made and standards to be agreed. There are also many new and better video processing chips, which haven't yet found their way into products yet. Home camcorders will soon be capable of 1080p at 60 frames/sec, so I'm hanging on for that one.

lol well blu-rays can store about 8x the data a normal DVD can because it uses blue lasers instead of red lasers, and there are several layers to the data on the disc, instead of one or two on normal DVDs. hence, loads more game data for games (PS3 and maybe PC in the future), and less compression of films. in fact, sound is hardly compressed at all, so you will hear 'perfect' sound (depending upon speakers and hearing capability  ) and a far sharper picture (6x i think they say), but all this sexy technology aint going to work on your black and white wood TV, you need an HD-ready telly that can blast these extra pixels to the screen. kapiche?

oh, and theyre expensive cos theyre new. they cost the same as what DVDs did when they came out!

I've got both the HD DVD drive for the xbox and the PS3s bluray drive. The difference on a good movie is fantastic on a large HD TV. I must say though that HD DVD looks better than Bluray. Pity it's been ditched. On the plus side you can pick up HD DVD films for about £4.50 in the fire sales \o/ I wouldn't bother with bluray at the moment. I find it quite grainy on a 50" plasma. There is talk of it being revamped in the near future. It's certainly not worth the extra money unless you have more money than sense. On the plus side your PS3 will upscale normal DVDs and make them look better on a HD TV. Not HD quality but better than normal DVD quality on a normal TV.

My adivce is (assuming you have a large HD tv) buy the xbox 360 HD DVD player from Gamestation for £20. Comes with the xbox dvd remote control. That unit was £150 6 months ago. Then pick up some good HD DVD movies from HMV or play.com in the fire sales. Save yourself a few quid and get better quality images imo.
