Did they or did they not have the Variable valve timing ?

Did the power drop to 280 for the manual in the final years?

Any help would be appreciated, would rather have the extra 20bhp.

They were all 280bhp. US ones were rated @ 300.

It's not difficult to get more power out of them. For about £400, you can get a good chip and boost controller and have them putting down around 350. You could do it for a few hundred quid with boost jets.

I thought they were all 300 brake jap uk and Us market then 96+ they had to drop it down to 280 because they stuggeld with the new emission laws

And the 280brake was a gentalmans agreement to stop a power race that never happend The Supra and Gto both had 320hp and us with 300hp :nono:

Athane has had 283.5 on the rollers and all she has is an exhaust so it must of had around 300hp from new and lost a few over the years which would seem around right

All Nissan marketing documents listed the UK cars as having 280bhp. JDM cars were the same. US brouchures listed 300.

I have just fetched out an old UK 300zx brochure which lists a 280 power figure.

or maybe my engine is soooo spot on that instead i gained a little with the exhaust and lost nothing over the years (i wish)

errr dunno why I got that standard with an exhaust only.... but I aint complaining :)

Errrr. Sorry, I must be crap!

My research lead me to believe that the variable timing models were 280 and the previous years were 300.

Theres a wikipedia article on the ZX, I think it must be wrong.

The reason I ask, is that Ive seen a nice Z for sale which is a '96 model.

The variable valve timing was on the early years. The wiki articles are written by Americans in the main.

Hang on...

A) Why cant I edit posts ?

B) Was anything different with the US models then ?

US BHP values are slightly different to European values. They also use different grade fuels.

Well, If I buy this car I shall pay up.

At the moment I own a Rover Coupe Turbo.

Covered only 20K miles. Its a beauty.

I like Rover Coupe Turbos, but this is a big step up. If you find a GOOD Z32...which is becoming harder to find, then you'll absolutely love it.

Well...

I found there wasnt a massive difference between the two at low speeds.

The thing is that the Rover is quick, up to a point. Going up the gears the T25 runs out of puff a bit. The Z just keeps pulling and pulling.

Im currently looking at a nice SWB.

I was talking more about the car overall. The driving position, the feel of the car, the looks it gets. The more you drive one, the more you'll see. :)

I agree. I really like the early ones too.

so were the jap supra and gto's quoted as 280hp but all had 320hp. That BS gental mans agreement which none of them stuck to as each one wanted to be the fastest. same with the skylines most of them and the focus rs are running more than stated. Thats with all proper dynos on other forums to prove

Dont believe everything you read

I know about the gentleman's aggreement and that was to restrict power to 280bhp?? Not to write bullcrap in their sales documents. It's why the Z only runs 9PSi stock?? They are a de-tuned engine.

like Si said, if ya gonna get 1 make sure its a GOOD 1, take someone with you who knows about them or take a look at the buying guide on here.

I had Richard Smith and Z32 boffin Gio along with me when I went to look at mine. :)

Any distance in the UK is worth it if it's a good one. I'd not hesitate at travelling for a good one.
