i know why but i'm wondering how if the waste gate is machanical how does it drop the pressure to 7.5 psi. thing is my GTR only boosts to 0.7 bar and thinging it might be in safety boost, it has a boost controller

its the boost selenoids that does it mate the ecu keeps them shut then the car runs stock boost (safety) and when conditions are right opens to allow extended boost hth

thanks mate i never new the zed had selenoids i thought the turbos spooled up and when the waste gates got to a certain pressure i.e 9.5psi they dumped the pressure. does the selenoid have some way of dumping pressure then?

the way i understand it is the solenoids act like a boost jet. When in safety its fully open allowing the wastegates to dump at their 6psi limit. When not in safety the solenoids closes the hole slightly to allow the pressure to build up higher on the intake side than on the waste gate side.

if i raise the boost on the boost controller nothing happens i am running at 0.7 bar. so if the solenoids were disconnected and the boost controller failed you would run at 6psi

if you turn the EBC off you run 6psi

thats sounds about right could rememeber wich way round it was

yes i get the same boost with EBC on or off, think EBC might be knackered, its a HKS III

Its possible that the pressure valve is stuck open. that would give you around 6/7psi regardless of the what you do at the control unit

is that part of the EBC that the turbo pipes go to

Well on a Z the pressure valve would sit in the wastegate signal line (same as the stock solenoids) so I imagine it would be the same on a skyline.

i think on the GTR its on the left as you look in the engine bay. so when you install a EBC you remove or disconnect the boost solenoid (i think mine has been removed) and if that fails you end up with safety boost pressure

In theory, yes. If your EBC is doing nothing then safety boost is all you'll get.
