Am changing jobs soon, have been 'on the tools' for 20yrs, finally

landed myself a job off the tools, trousers & shirt etc:wack:

Anyways, i need to use my own car for work, around 800-1000 miles a month.

Currently running a mondeo 2.0, which is gonna be a bit thirsty for my liking.

Have narrowed down my search to a 306 turbo diesel, seem to be able to pick one up for around a grand, dont look too bad, economical and reasonably

nippy.

Has anyone got any experience with them? Things i should look out for etc?

Gonna be getting 40p per mile allowance with apparantly is quite good too.

Thanks in advance...Simon.

I know a couple of people who have / had them and they were great cars but now they are starting to notice too many faults mechanical / electrical appearing far too often. Then and again that is only two people.

Sometimes its a case of better the devil you know, if your mondeo is reliable enough id keep it as french cars all seem to go wrong after 3 years and break more and more often as time goes on.

peugot diesels are bomb proof but the french electrics are crap so if you wanna car that will go forever but nothing works go for it LOL

used to work for peugeot a few years ago. the same as paul@swz said electrics can be a problem on certain areas (eg electrics going into the doors common fault is wires breaking or corrodding) make sure you test all switches etc. cambelt history etc. i have owned 5 peugeots in the past all ok just wear & tear items, pads discs, exhaust rear pipe and service items.

Watch for the fuel pumps. The seals can go in them and it's not an easy job to do as you have to take the cam belt off to replace.

If the peugeot diesels engine is good buy a rover 200 or 400 with the peugeot engine, the electrics and engine on one of them should safely outlast the bodywork!!
