The best chamois for your car is a Speedo sports swimming towel!

I've never really got on with chamois leathers, they leave streaks and when new, need to be cleaned for ages to get the tanning dye out of them. Then they perish and fall to bits after a while. The alternative, synthetic chamois are crap. They just don't seem to absorb fluid and end up feeling like you're drying the car with a damp towel...which leaves streaks and all sorts.

Also, chamois leathers collect dirt easily.

About 10 years ago, I'd gotten fed up with my chamois leather and ended up finding an old Speedo type sports towel that I used to use at swimming galas. I've had the same thing since. It's fantastic. Acts a little like squeegee, but is soft and easy to use and has absorbant properties as well like a chamois does. It doesn't streak, smeer, leave marks or attracts dirt/grit.

I've just had to buy another one as, believe it or not, I seem to have lost the old one. But I'd still use it now if I had it. Outlasts chamois leathers by a decade, both synthetic and natural ones AND does a much much better job.

Just thought I'd add my recomendation for the day. :)

I use microfibre clothes instead of chamois leathers.. Probably a very similar material to your Speedo towel Si.

Chamois leathers really are average aren't they

Yes, I hate chamois leathers, even expensive ones. They just don't last and do a crap job.

I think they are similar technology. I had thought they might be the same as the MF drying towels. But I'd imagine they may be cheaper. These are £10 each, which, when you look at the price of a top quality chamois, is pretty good.

There really shouldn't be any dirt on your car to get on the chamois, if you've washed it properly

I like a good chamois myself. You have to ring them out well to get the best out of them.

Exactly, you don't need to do that with this, well you do, but they are much easier to wring the water from.

As for the dirt, everyone's dropped the chamios occasionally and if you have large ones, then sometimes they might drag. They take ages to get the dirt out of properly, where as these, the dirt just floats away when submersed.

They have a semi rubbery feel to them when wet even though they absorb. They are not like a towel. They feel part like a chamois and party rubbery. Very hard to explain. When dry, they feel like cardboard. Strange things. Need to be used wet just like you would with your chamois.

LOL! Narrr. I managed to get into the qualifying for the under 18s national championships many moons ago for freestyle and butterfly. Shame I didn't stick at it as I was one of the quickest butterfly swimmers for my age at one point in the South West.
