If I open the throttle slowly it will get there but any more than about half and the engine just dies, completely cuts out, foot off the gas and its OK again.

Cut my boost to half a bar just to make sure it was not over boosting and its the same, no obvious air/boost leaks. Idle is fine if a bit high but then it always is, so its the same. Switched it off last time and it was sweet, started this time and this is happening, so guessing electrical?????

Feels like an old fashioned carb engine when its too cold to run without the choke, if you know what I mean? ie running too lean.

Any ideas before I start to pull things off? MAF maybe?

Thanks in advance.....

If the MAF is faulty it will give you a safety rev limit of 4000rpm ish I think.

possibly a loose throttle linkage or the air filter blocked giving air starvation as oposed to over fuelling !! if it was overfueling you would smell the petrol , check ..that the a plastic bag or some such has not got sucked into the air cleaner

i thought dead maf was 2500rpm?

No thats a wet MAF give 2500. Once they start to go faulty they start to limit the revs to about 5000 RPM and then progressively get worse. Or at least thats what happend to mine.

I´ve had all sorts of probs with the fuel pump in the last 3 months and imo it doesn´t sound like a fuel pump problem..so I´d put that last on the list of things to check.

:)

Check the temp sensor connector for corrosion. Dead MAF will give 2500 rpm rev limit, damaged MAF could well cause your problem though...

Oh and have you checked the ECU for error codes???

Thanks for the replies.

Jaffa, not loose coil packs, I checked all the simple things straight away.

Quavey, dont think so because it happens so suddenly, it simply stops working (the engine).

AS for the MAF, this is my feeling. Loose throttle, no, checked, but thanks. Plastic bag? I wil go and look now, lol, but there is no fuel smell at all, and below 5k ish rpm its fine.

Markzx, did your car feel like mine when your MAF died, or started to die? Just a big hole above 5K?

And I agree Maz that it doesnt "feel" like a fuel pump problem.

Thanks Guys.

Andy, thanks for the reply, I have not checked for error codes, TBH I forgot and it was raining so I just left it. I will do so and report back.

Is there some check that I can do on the MAF? Dont know if you remember my earlier post about a misfire? I swapped MAF's then and the problem stayed the same, but when I was out on Sunday, car missed for a while at high boost then cleared up and ran well, switched it off and now its doing this. So it seems to be something thats "died"....

Could well be the temp sensor connection then - if you can get it on a conZult/datascan, check that the ecu is seeing a coolant temp of around 85 degrees once warmed up... Obviously this will need to be while its running crap lol

Thanks, dont know anyone round here, Aylesbury Bucks, with a datascan/conzult thingy.

I will have a look at the connection though and see if it looks OK.

Cheers

Thanks (again), I have looked at the temp sensor, mild corrosion but it looks OK really. I will do an ECU code check tommorrow and prob borrow the MAF I tried before.

If that fails I will contact someone from the list, :-)

Make sure the contacts on the temp sensor connector are closed up and making good contact though ;)

I did bend the contacts slightly on the engine side to make sure they are touching, also, with the engine running if I take off the connector the electric fan starts up, so I am guessing that means the connector is making contact? Thats what I thought anyway.

Yep its making contact BUT because the temp sensor is basically a resistor, the added resistance of bad contacts will give the ECU the wrong reading...

I see, so I need to MAKE SURE its is clean, OK. Thanks for that.

Thats the advantage of having the conZult/datascan hooked up - you will see if the ECU is getting a correct reading ;)

Yes, no one that close on the list though, so just have to do it the old way.

But, its not raining today so maybe we can get it done...Cheers

next time the problem happens check the rev-counter on the dash.

if it drops to zero or you see the needle bounce up and down violently, the problem is the CAS or it's wiring/connector.
