Driving home from work today, the revs sudenly shot through the roof with no change in speed. To cut a lng story short I have lost 3rd and 4th gears, is there any way to get them back or is it time for a new box? feeling thoroughly fed up now.

manual it ;)

Sorry to hear that mate:cry:

I'm having a bit of bother with mine too - it doesn't want to change up unless I ease off the accelerator; 2nd being the major problem.

I had a chat with an auto-box specialist yesterday and he's looking at mine Tuesday. He thinks it may be something simple like a throttle position sensor but he did say at worst it could be the internal seals within the box. He said that's a common problem with Japanese auto-boxes.

If it's bad he quoted me £1200 plut VAT for a re-build.....

......as I don't use the car much now I'm not sure whether to have it re-built, go for a manual conversion or just have a known "good" second hand replacement.

I will know Tuesday; but I hope yours is not too serious or expensive.

Richard:(

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Just found the receipt from S.E.Nissan for a fast road autobox in 2002, surely it woudn't have gone wrong in that time would it??

What is the fluid like? Does it smell burnt?

  • Author

The fluid is slightly pink/reddish in colour and doesn't smell burnt. the level seems to be fine as well.

If you wipe it on a white paper towel does it look dirty?

Mine did the same, tired everything and was a new box in the end, and sorry to say 99% of the time if you loose 3rd and 4th thats your only option, only thing you have to decide is rebuild, replace or manwel conversion.

but i would have thought that the nisstek fast road box would last longer than 6 years.

Generally a normal Zed autobox lasts about 2 weeks, so 6 years is bloody good going LOL

Do a Diagnostics check first. if it all comes up clean then its a mechanical fault and time to replace or recon.

I will have a good working autobox available in a week or so if you need one.

I may well do mate, duffers has suggested doing a fluid and strainer chaneg, so will give that a go forst mate.

Mine lasted 15 years. bloody exceptional Id say, lol.

I had a Nisstek box put on a few years ago and i have a 5-8 second delay on drive. Had it looked at by autobox specialist and he said could be problems already. Then had it in with DTA in Holland and Eric said that i had burnt fluid already. Not forgetting my car has been off the road for a year n half. So yes it could be possible going bud. My clock is ticking LOL (again!!!!)

Sorry to hear that mate, has been on boost jets for quite a while though hasn't it? has it got an aftermarket oil cooler??

Not the end of the world though as you can pick up a new box for £200 + carrage. Theres even companies offering referbed ones with warrenties

It did but i took the jets out a while ago, yes it has an aftermarket cooler. seems strange that the oil is clean and not burnt.
