Hi,

Just wondered what type of petrol people are putting into their cars (come to think of it the car dealer never told me what was ment to be going in it, as its a import - i dont know/have a user manual..)?

I think i heard that in japan they use 100 Ron, so am i best putting super unleaded plus (97 Ron)?

Thanks

Barry

optemax is the best for imports or super unleaded if you cant get the optemax

Optimax is better than any other petrol in this country. You will get more power, better fuel economy and it will keep your injectors clean and help protect your engine.

Our standard petrol is crap compared to Japan's.

Let me guess, optimax is more expensive?

Is that only available from shell garages?

Cheers

Optimax does cost more, but you should make the cost back from the extra mpg. (unless like me you live miles away from a Shell garage).

Shell OPTIMAX is 98 ron and is most suited to import cars.(I never use anything else if possible)UK cars will run on 95 as standard. Most super unleaded is 97.

Optimax biggrin.gif and I don't work for Shell.

(Have used super unleaded which I think is 97 RON - it's OK but Optimax is better. IMHO)

Theres many discussions about, one being on the gtr forums (i think) about the benefits of 'super' petrols.

One being that super unleaded has a higher CVL than optimax which is better for performance whereas optimax has a higher octane rating which acts as a more useful knock (detonation retardent). And bla bla and so on. Apparently super and some toulene is so much better than optimax and stuff.

Ill be sticking to optimax though wink.gif biggrin.gif

optimax ever since i asked this question here!! biggrin.gif

...and you get free top trumps cards with Optimax. Top!

Having said that, I did get 2 Skodas in my first pack of 6 frown.gif Swapsies anyone?

(did get a TVR Cerbera Speed Twelve though, 800bhp, 240+mph, 0-60 3.0, you're gonna have to specify number of seats to beat me with that one lol)

Only tried Optimax once, it did seem to pull better and be more responsive, although that could have been all in my mind as I'd had a Peugeot 205 diesel for a couple of days before. I'm going to try it again the next time I fill up (need some more cards)

dont you get £10,000 if you collect all of the optimax top trump cards??

maybe we could have a group buy on optimax, pool all the cards together to see if we can win!!! biggrin.gif

I think you win a car upto the value of £50,000?

the thing is their are only 3 ferrari cards

Here's a tale !

Tonight I couldn't make it to my nearest Shell garage to fill up with Optimax as I was so low on fuel. So I pop into the local BP and stick in a £10 worth of unleaded (not super). I pull out of garage and about 3 minutes later everything seems wrong. Car feel slugish and sounds noisier. Think to myself "better get some Optimax tomorrow".

Anyway as I head for home I find myself on the motorway for a short period of time. Down goes the foot and as the Turbo's kick in I hear a rattling sound from the engine. I guess this is the dreaded detonation that I've been hearing about. Anyway thanks to the info I've read on here I back off and all sounds OK again.

I make a quick U turn (no, not on the motorway) and head for Dover where I can get some Optimax. So I fill up and off she goes. Sounds better, pulls better and most importantly the rattling has gone.

Guess that's a lesson learnt.

The only thing that confuses me is that when I first got the car I used normal unleaded and this did not happen. I can only assume that maybe the ECU works out that you've been using Optimax and is not at all impressed when some plain old 95 RON goes in. Am I right or way of the mark ??

Darren

If I have to put in nasty supermarket petrol I can get the car to det if I really hammer it but on optimax or super it never does so it does prove there is a difference in the fuels
