Sympton: Car wont start. No sound from pump

Tried so far:

Checked Fuel Pump Fuse

Check car had fuel

Took off fuel pipe, cranked engine and No Fuel Delivery

Checked there was power going to fuel pump and there is

Removed CAS and turned by hand with ignition on, Injectors clicked, still no sound from Fuel Pump

Cleaned up CAS, PTU and all electrica; connectors to do woth Fuel delivery

Removed Pump and had it Tested out of the Car and it worked.

Swapped ECU no difference

Swapped Fuel Pump Relay No Diference

Swapped Fuel Pump ECU No Difference

Where do i go next?

does the car have an immobiliser ? if so, then it could be the internal relay thats gone pear shaped.

Well it done friggin work so they wont get far.

Anyway back to the technical problem

is there a live & earth going to the fuel pump ? have you checked if theres fuel at the tank side of the fuel filter ? i have known them get blocked, but not sure if its possible on the zed. worth a shot.

Live and earth goin to the pump and there is no noise, no even the priming which i have always been able to hear.

only thing i can think of then is the connection at the pump, either the pins on the pump, or the connectors in the plug. :(

Just out of interest Marcus.. Have you got a spark at the plugs?

Havent tested for a spark but if there is no fuel being delivered it wouldnt matter lol

there has to be a bad connection somewhere along the line, either a bad live or earth. ideally you could do with a test probe to see which it is, thats what i use, it saves a hell of a long time arsing about.

Does the car turn over fast but wont start? could still be the PTU even if you did clean connectors mine went last week S1 PTU hope you fix it.

You could try pouring a bit of petrol into the intercooler pipes. If it fires up it proves you have no fuel and a spark.

I did this on a 200sx when it had some kind of immobiliser. I had to earth out a fuel pump relay manually. Some stupid ass had interfered with it to fit an immobiliser.

HTH.

Just been looking at the circuit diagram and noticed that after the fuel pump relay there is a "Fuel Pump Control Unit". It looks like the fuel pump might get its +ve feed from the fuel pump relay but it completes the circuit through the fuel pump control unit. Do you have access to a circuit diagram for the zed so you can have a look yourself? Also, what method did you use to test the fuel pump? If you used a spare battery, or even if you have a spare battery, just wire the pump up to that whilst it's in the car, crank it over and see if it fires up :) The reason I say about the spare battery is cause you'd have to have a lot of wire to reach from the zeds battery to the fuel pump lol.

Vern

Sorry mate, just noticed the first post of the thread says you've swapped the fuel pump control unit. Like I said though - I'd try wiring up the fuel pump directly and seeing what happens then :)

Vern

What I'd do at this point is wire it up directly in the car and try to start it to make it 100% definate that it's a fuel pump wiring issue you've got. Also after having checked for a feed to the fuel pump check that the -ve side has continuity with the chassis to check it's earthing properly :)

Vern

It is obviously an electrical feed problem to the pump. Why not wire it direct in the car and firstly see if fuel comes out from the fuel filter and then reconnect and see if it will start.

TBH I'm not very good at testing for electrical parts, I have a multimeter but apart for checking for a 12v feed I'm useless with it. I did test the plug that connects to the fuel pump and got 11.8v from one of the wires. The fuel pump had a live feed attached to it, off the car and it whirred up and pumped fuel out. The 5 wires into the back of the ignition have been checked as per the online manual, they are all in the correct order and each one seems to do what it was supposed to, the car was working fine after the ignition was rewired.

I should have a PTU being delivered today and will try that next. If that fails i will have to call my uncle who is an auto-electrician to help, but i dont often talk to him.

Do you have a spark?

If you have a spare coil pack and spark plug, disconnect one of the coil packs and plug it into your spare. Crank engine over and see if it sparks.

If it does spark, then you have no fuel.

Hence my post above, I assumed you had ignition but no fuel.

OK after fitting a replacement PTU, nothing....

So went back to testing the wires for a 12v live, one of the orange ones did have a 12v live, but after yesting my spare with a direct feed and earth, found that the 12v live readinf wire isnt the one that powers the pump. Direct fed the pump in the car and its started whiring. turned car over whilst it was wiiring for about a minute or 2 and it still ont start. I really cant think what could be the culprit, i checked wires and everything im im getting pretty fed up with this shit car.

bloody silver one was a 10th of the heap of shit this one is and i broke that one with tax, mot and working fine.
