this is serious so trust me! iv got a 1991 jap spec and i have had afew upgrades, but nothing intearnal.iv got a blitz boost controller and a power meter id. my car was running around 30psi.yes i mean 30psi.it did this for about 1 week. then it lost power. i could only get 22psi at a push. now i can only get 21.9 at a push. i have had a boost pressure test done and nothing is leaking. the car runns fine ie, no smoke, no noises and not detting. the only other thing i noticed was that my car doesnt seem to purr when im crusing on the motorway anymore and it doesnt feel as responsive as it did. i know this boost is high but the car loves it. it baffles mechanics minds as how i can run so much boost on standard turbos and intearnals but i know that i have lost a lot ov power. WHAT COULD THIS BE? please help me...........

Are you old enough to drive or is it your dads car?

I wouldnt get involved in this one hehe:x:

im going to de cat it, see if that works.

And how will that help other than blowing your turbo seals out the back??? LOL

Ahhhhh gotcha :) Yeah I remember, on the sunday? Is the boost controller DEFINITELY set to read in PSI? You can change the units it reads in :)

Yes deffinatly PSI. it can also do others . were u the guy i took a card off?

maybee the cats are blocked up with shite cus since ive lost power the car doesnt seem to rumble anymore. do u recn it will cause damage to my car if i do de cat it?:D

ZXtreme yeah ;) The set values are not in psi ;) They are not in any units apart from a percentage :)

Decatting will reduce back pressure and the tub seals are more likely to leak.

your taking the piss

They are numbers used for setting up the unit - its percentage duty for the boost solenoid (how long it is closed compared to how long it is open). The higher this number, the less effective pressure is fed to the wastegate actuators, the higher the boost you will run. Have you checked for any error codes?

Oh no he aint he's 100% serious

Fact is, you're NOT doing 22psi. Can you take a picture of the boost gauge for me? That should clear it up

no probs ill do it on the weekend.

Everything is all clear and Jeff plugged his laptop in and said it was all clear.

Jeff said the same thing what everyone else is saying. "your boost controller is giving u a wrong readout". SO he used his own dial and he eased off the pedal at what he is claiming to be the danger zone. he had a little red sticker on the dial and the needle went straight past it. Jeff said "it is actually doing what your controller is saying but why and how is unknown".

So......... i still want my power back!!!!

As far as i know the reading is off his boost controller, but if just of his gauge i'd be interested too. BTW Andy this is the guy you spoke with last year up at Nottingham at the show, just to help with idea's ;)

smithy

CHEERS MATE. im struggling to cope with all this typing!:o

Deffo sounds like a boost leak somewhere. Another thought is that when the controller was fitted, one of the wastegate lines might have been kinked - kink is now no longer there so the settings are wrong.... Well I know what I mean anyway lol

This is getting a little confusing, so the gauge Jeff used, your EBC and aftermarket ??? boost guage ALL showed 30+PSI initially and then it dropped to 20 odd. For me it is hard to grasp that this is possible albeit it could be bur unlikeley. Like Andy said, could you post up a picture of your boost gauge at all ?

When you take the pic can you also take a pic of the PEAK boost reading on the controller. If you struggle finding it let me know and I'll find the guide for you :)

Hmmmm, yes, but is it possible for stock turbos to deliver that kind of pressure Andy even if the wastgate was stuck closed ?

What is the MAX pressure a stock tub could deliver without the wastegate opening, would it be infinity (and beyond LOL) utill it blew itself to bits ????

At these claimed pressures the engine would be dead within hours.

Either the timing is so far out it's not running right or this is all b0llox and I think I know which  LOL

Think wozzer tried this on a spair tub, iirc, they started to actually be less efficient after 17psi and blew at 22. Don't quote me though :D

Yeah, when I plumbed in my EBC wrong :nelson: I was hitting a max of around 18+PSI went like fooking stink though so at 20+ or even 30+ HOLD ON !
