this is serious so trust me! iv got a 1991 jap spec and i have had afew upgrades, but nothing intearnal.iv got a blitz boost controller and a power meter id. my car was running around 30psi.yes i mean 30psi.it did this for about 1 week. then it lost power. i could only get 22psi at a push. now i can only get 21.9 at a push. i have had a boost pressure test done and nothing is leaking. the car runns fine ie, no smoke, no noises and not detting. the only other thing i noticed was that my car doesnt seem to purr when im crusing on the motorway anymore and it doesnt feel as responsive as it did. i know this boost is high but the car loves it. it baffles mechanics minds as how i can run so much boost on standard turbos and intearnals but i know that i have lost a lot ov power. WHAT COULD THIS BE? please help me...........

from what ive heard and learnt id say 21.9psi is plenty good, the wise people here say 1 bar is plenty on stock tubos, mine at max boost is 1.1bar,if your engine internals are standard i dont think it'l last long,or the turbos !!

Could it be that the gauge is not really in PSI but some other reading.

30 foot of head is 13psi

Was the gauge fitted in Japan?

So to try and help why won't the car hold boost, whatever the size, boost leak perhaps, poor recircs.

Darrell

do all of the below and its death jim but not as we know it!:dance::D

dan.

sounds like a case of malnourished asbestos hamster :) Try feeding the poor thing. Must be knackerd hanging on at 30psi

Or running normal boost and now running safety (for some reason) and your boost gauge is way out?

Theres a thought maybe hes had speedholes fitted, in which case 30psi is quite realistic.

If the boost is dropping it's either a boost leak or the GAIN is set too high for the SET on the boost controller iirc At that sort of pressure on stock tubs maybe the boost leak is around the tubs?? Maybe the impella's are knackered and spoolong up to the same speed but not producing correct pressure??

All you need to do is remove the nut behind the steering wheel and the boost will return to normal.

cheers mate ill try adjusting the gain a little and see if it holds it. someone told me i could have bent the impellas at that pressure, is this true?

They are naturally curved anyway, if they got bent they would grind against the housing, the spindle would then become loose and you would be chewing up your blades.

when the boost pipe came off my blitz unit the boost hit 21 psi not sure if that was a true reading though

At these claimed pressures the engine would be dead within hours.

Either the timing is so far out it's not running right or this is all b0llox and I think I know which  LOL

Mainiac,i see your in the West Midlands, prob not far from me(Northampton area)i would be willing to come and have a look for you,or you come to me,either way would be very interesting to get to the bottom of it and see what is going on with your Z.

Tony

Stock turbos WILL NOT give 30psi! FACT!!!

Stock injectors WILL NOT give anywhere near enough fuel for 30psi! FACT!!!

Stock manifolds and intercoolers will not allow enough flow for 30psi FACT!!!

Your engine WOULD have gone into complete meltdown as soon as you even tried to hit 30psi FACT!!!

Now thats out of the way, get a compression test done

Maybe he's bought a "sleeper" from Japan with a Jun engine that he's not aware of :D

What's the performance like? Does it beat Ferrari F50's or just Fiat 500's?

If he not too far away i will like to check it out,but i cant understand why Jeff could not of checked it out for sure,it would not be hard to do,i think its prob faulty gauge.I once touched 30psi very briefly due to a boost fault, then had probs, was proven to be a chip/crack in piston head,No6.Anyways the amount of det at 30psi on stock would be heard easily.

im sorry for taking so long to reply, im totaly shite on computers and im new on this site. ive owned the car for 5 years and it was totally standard when i brought it. Jeff did all the mods mods ie, rps max clutch, fidanza flywheel, boost upgrade, airfilter, exhaust etc. im sure that it hasnt had any intearnal work done in Japan.you can also mail me at KJPZX@live.co.uk. cheers :D

so why am i doing 22psi now and i know ive lost loads ov power????????

i havent got bigger injectors!!!!!!!!

the car sounds fine even when i Kill it!!

Fact is, you're NOT doing 22psi. Can you take a picture of the boost gauge for me? That should clear it up

As far as i know the reading is off his boost controller, but if just of his gauge i'd be interested too. BTW Andy this is the guy you spoke with last year up at Nottingham at the show, just to help with idea's ;)

Ahhhhh gotcha :) Yeah I remember, on the sunday? Is the boost controller DEFINITELY set to read in PSI? You can change the units it reads in :)

:(

if i was you mate i would not listen at all and get aboost leak detector and a new boost pressure gauge !

Its not the boost guage! when i brought it i got the power meter id as well. the boost controller didnt work at all so i had it sent back to Blitz. they issued me with a new one. this one worked fine. it still works because when i put a set of 8psi it reduces power. it has got a maximum of 35.5psi. i always leave it on full power unless its raining. iv had Jeff from zed world drive it with his boost dial in it and he eased off the peddal when it went way past his red mark on his dial. if only he new that i had been thrashing it all the way there to try and make it work like it did before i lost power! ive had a boost test don and it isnt leaking. im going to de cat it, see if that works.

Are you old enough to drive or is it your dads car?
