Removing rear hub

Hi guys have ben trying to remove the outer ball joint from the hub but can't get it out. Have tried cutting off the flange and driving it through what would be the wrong way it it aint budging. Have heated it and hit it with a 15ib sledgebut still not budging.

Come to the conclusion that the hub will hav to come off. Obviously this involves a lot of work so would like some pictures of what to do. Am having problems with the lower arm and the handbrake.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Did you try drilling through the old ball joint, using a bigger size drill piece each time you go through?

Man you must be very pissed at the mo, u gunna make z008 u think?

The rear hub isnt such a hard job but will take a bit of time.

Yes Jimmy very pissed.

Tried drilling but access is so difficult and the ball so hard and the hub so wobbly that it is almost impossible.

Given up on Z008 as I am playing cricket tomorrow. The boy will be taking to pieces, which we have been trying to do most of the day. Took and age to get a 36mm socket that would fit.

We have got most of the hub off but we are having problems with the handbrake and lower arm.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Someone to come round and do it would be even better.

hhaha.. i feelfor u mate.

ok lower arm is easy, just undo the antiroll bar link first, then losen off the bottom balljoint nut with a spanner i think its a 22mm, but this part can be tricky coz the whole joint may start spinning once it comes in contact with the rust ontop of the thread. If this happens then the easiest thing to do is get a jack under the ball joint so it is under load with the hub, then it wont spin, then loosen the two nut and bolts that connect the bushings to the subframe, then you got to wiggle it out. easy once you get started.

Thanks for the link it was a great help.

Have the hub off and despite having teh use of a 15 tonne press the ball joint still won't come out.

Gonna see if NASA want them to find out what it is glued in with cos they might want it for holding th space station together.

Looks like replacement hubs for me then.
