make sure you have full ducati service history and find out when the cam belts were done i surpose you have been told about the eletric problems that they have well mine was a 996 s reg and it never let me down also wot year is it and how may miles has it done

shite had one for a few hours and gave it back for a 996 the 748 is gutless when you get into say a roundabout youl be pumping it down gears like theyre free and then it takes ages to get going again out of the corner whereas the bigger dukes just pull like a train and are just as flikable as the 748 but it seems all the 748/996 etc suffer from oil into the airbox when wheelied so dont do them for long thats my opinion on them also frasiers have still got the 748 for sale i gave them back 3 years ago lol kinda gives you an idea

The 748 is ok, but why buy a half pint when you can have a full one ? ....

V twins are great i recently had a new rsv mille [2 years ago ] the bike did everything i wanted fast/handling/ and toured spain/ireland ive since had fireblades/gsxr/zxr/zzr1100 now looking at another mille or r1 as for the ducati as previously said full history/belts and consider an independant inspection, it would not be my first choice for a first bike

i ahd a 748 what a peace of crap nothing but probs, gutless. go for the 999 sooooo much better seemed to handle better to and ooooooooooooh that torque.

The smaller twins are a bit weedy but once u get on a 1000 vtwin it all makes sense instant power even at 2000rpm and a dream to ride. And they sound amazing with an uprated exhaust.

ok so this was first posted ages ago. i gave up on the ducati, ppl were right. great....when it's in tip top condition. so after long and hard thought i bought a.......ktm dukeII:dance:

for a first bike...great! it's given me the chance to put the Z in the garage so i can concentrate on getting her back to former glory.

i do only wish i passed my bike test years ago. thanks for the advice about the ducati. i think i was surpassing myself with a bike like that.:mac1:

IMO. You cant get better than a good ol' UJM.

Sorry but the only Italian bike I like is the RSV1000R. Even then I would prefer a Jap. :D

if u want a decent twin, get yourself a TL1000!

Great engine in a crap chassis! Great if you like being high sided! By far one of the worst bikes ive ever ridden
