Hi,

Got my new ZX! Very nice just trying to get to grips with it. It is a jap import so i have no manual (is there a user manual somewhere?) - so excuse the questions!

I suspect the air con needs regasing - is the inspection glass the vertical pipe/glass near the battery??

The liquid seems to be white/fast moving, with little bubbles appearing/disappearing very quickly?

Can you confirm i am looking at the right thing? Anyway i am not getting any decent cold air.

Also on the air con controls - what exactly do the "REC" and "Econ" - economy? buttons do?

Thanks for your patience!

Barry

your looking at the right pipe bud,

mines not very cold either, does yours go down to

10 on the display??

econ: you can use econ 2 warm up the car as it doesent use the aircon pump to warm up the car only to keep it kool this way u use less petrol i think???

rec: this recurculates the air inside the car so it does'nt draw fresh air into the car, i think it switches off after a while so u cant use it constantly, handy when u drive past a shit farm 2 keep the stench out!!!

Rec/Recirculate uses the air from inside the car to be cooled or heated. This has advantages of if its really hot outside the AC will take cooler air from inside the car rather than hot air outside, resulting in colder air being pumped out.

It turns off after about 20 mins I think. There was a big problem with older AC systems where the Rec would reuse the old air inside the car meaning there is no fresh oxygen getting in. People have been know to crash and die due to lack of oxygen.

Another good use if this is you can use it when outside is smelly wink.gif. If you are behind a tractor pulling crap or going past a field full of shittly cows. Press the rec button, and after a min the smell will go. wink.gif

I can send you a service manual and parts microfiche on CDR's if you want, no charge.

Hi,

I have it set 10 degrees - fan on - set to auto, the amb (ambient temp?) inside the car was 31 degrees today (scorcher in M.K). So it is a bad time to find out it does not work!

I can hopefully get the dealer to fix it, as the car is going back for an MOT in a weeks time - so i am just test driving/checking it at the mo and will give him the list of things to fix when i go back.

I had the car door open when I was checking the inspection glass and i could hear what sounded like a gurgly sound coming from the black connecting air hole (engine side) to the door. Does this mean anything? (reminds me of a Blocked sink!).

Thanks for the info.

Barry

The Amp Temp is the temperature out side.

Any one know about the AC view pipe. Cos I cant see a thing in mine. Does it need refilling.

Welcome Nelsonbd,

Another 'Z' in MK getting to be crowded LOL,

Air con: I've heard R12 is no longer available? is this right. As i need re-gassing to. Whats the alternative to ask for any ideas?

harve

The remaining of the gas will be drained and then refilled with something else which is safer. Dont know what its called. Its not as good but it works.

Whats all this air conditining stuff???? In weather like this there is NO EXCUSE for not having your roof off!!

Take off your roof, problem solved.

R12 is no longer available, R413a is a direct replacement, but more expensive than the more common R134a which is used on modern cars.

you can get a conversion kit to convert your R12 to R134a.

I got mine done. The guy said the direct replacement now for R12 was R416 plus he used synthetic oil to lube the compressor plus dye to help show up leaks. To use R419 does mean mods to the system for full effect. Mines been great for over a year now. If I stick a temp probe in the vent I get about 8 deg C when on max cold.

Nelson, regarding your gurgling sound, follow this link to a thread on the Tech Forum...

not wanting to piss on anyones bonfire here...but the drop in replacement for r12 is RS24 smile.gif

no conversions no new lubes etc etc - apparently

http://www.ref-prods.com/RS-24.html have fun

regards

i got a bottle of the stuff at work, will check its designation tomorrow!! wink.gif

BTW, if you use synthetic oil you may as well go R134a, the problem with converting is with the oil!!

you should also dose with a conversion oil which mixes with the old oil changing its molecular structure. the old mineral oil which is still floating around just turns to jelly, creating lubrication problems & blocking up the expansion valve etc.

the gas we got is R413a.

tho i dont use it no more, started to convert all to R134a. (only cos our old R12 unit looks like an old bastardised fridge!!)
