Its happend!!!! Got rear ended yesterday FFS !!!

What can i say. There i was in the sun after a day out in london with my wife and family then BANG!!! I got shunted from behind at a pedestrian crossing. Thing was it was my wife sister and husband who did it!!

The damage is quite bad. Dented my rear bumper which isnt the problem but it also damaged and bent the panel between the bumper and lights pushing it up and causing the rear hatch to lift. I cant get it open and now i have approx 8 mm gap on either side.

Ive only had it on the road 5 months from the new engine i had put in FFS.

I have never had this happen before. I was wondering if and how the insurance would work on a case like this. There is no dispute who was in the wrong and he admits it. Im fully comp but can the insurance company still write my car off even though his company will be paying??

Reason i ask this is because that center panel at the back looks as if its one with the two rear wings.:cry::cry:

The chances are they'll write it off, they wanted to write mine off after simple front bumper and wing damage, sorry mate.

So have you still got it?? If so how did you manage to keep it?? Cheers

If they did write it off, would i be able to get parts off it before they did??

take it in for a verbal estimate first, (you only have to pay for a writen estimate).

as you are the third party claiming off the policy holder. i.e it wont be your insurance paying for it, which means your insurance will fight that little bit harder to keep your car on the road.

if i were you i would take it to an insurance approved body shop first to see how much the repair will cost.

as for taking bits off the car if it does get writen off then if the parts have been declaired then you will have to leave them on as this accounts for the value of the vehicle. if they are not declaired then i would take them off before you get it estimated, or you risk the claim being thrown out.

The bumper thats damaged is a normal bumper. I have changed the front and put on a spoiler. Theres no way i can take them off. What im worried about are the interior side of things like my Navan gear knob etc...

It's still ongoing, the twat that damaged my car is still contesting blame so i repaired it myself.

So i dont have to except what they say then!!?? The car is drivable and would still pass mot etc. Its just so fookin annoying that such a good working car would be scrapped. The rear lights didnt even get broke:cry:

You don't have to accept that it's written off at all.

There can be lot's of problems with buying back your car after it's been written off too, sometimes it can be more expensive than just getting it done yourself.

Definitely get your own estimate before you allow the insurance to get you to estimate it. If the bodywork company tell yours or he's insurance they might cat "B" it before you can do anything and the car will be useless then. I made that mistake a few years back and they offered me stupid money because they knew it was totalled.

My wife has just been talking to her sister. They are back home now in Holland. Forgot to say that they are Dutch. Just found out how there insurance works. The dutch insurance pays you the value of the damage etc but lets you keep the car to either get fixed or to scrap. So how will it work for me then, if the dutch insurance pays up. Surly it hasnt got anything to do with mine though cus they wont be paying anything.

Im no expert but it sounds like all that has to happen is get a written quotation for the damage, send it to your brothers insurance company and you will recieve payment from them. then just have the car repaired, if theres no counter claim your insurance company shouldnt want to get involved. Its a bit like damaging your car and having it repaired rather than claiming, the insurance company wouldnt even be informed

Hope so buddy. Im gonna get some pics up later to see if anyone would have an idea of costings. Just looked though and under the car is creased FFS I think thats what may have caused the rear hatch to lift.

you will still have to tell your insurance company about the accident, there will be an option to buy your car back, it will only be minimum like what i paid, it may stll require a vehicle identity check and be listed as a class c or d write off

if you are fully comp, your insurance company will pay you the full price of settlement and then reclaim them from the dutch insurance company

Surely it's not a good idea to claim on your own insurance for a crash that wasn't your fault?

Is that what you're saying Alan?
