:cry: engine has been eratic for 2 weeks now, had a cough and a splutter then died, wouldn't restart for 20 mins, sounded like fuel starvation, started up, got me home but won't start up again.

diagnostic check recently has shown a tps fault, would this cause these issues???? how much will it cost for a new tps to be fitted and set up and any recommendations as to where i should get it done(will nissan rip me off) thanks in advance murf

Murf, could be somthing and nothing. The TPS, (throttle position sensor) does what it says, so if the ecu things the throttle is closed when its open it could esaily stall, or fail to start. Im sure if you have an ask around there will be peoepl who could lend you or sell you a replacement TPS sensor to try. Shouldnt be too much i dont think.

 

When you say the engine has been erratic what do you mean? Reving on its own or hard to start or what?

I'd check the PTU too

hi mate TPS is cheap but it may be your PTU will it still not start?

best off subscribing mate then you can send p.ms and ask people like andy duff or someone closer to you like jimmer or swz

If it helps my freind had exactly the same symptoms on his NA, changed TPS with a known good S/H one @£30 and set it up himself using the advice on here- search forums- with total success!

has been over revving on idle upto 2k rpm which is causing all kinds of weird and clunky gearchanges, another time it'll run just fine, played around with several plugs the other day and seemed to get some improvement when fiddling with the water temp sensor for the dash(black one) but surely this was just coincidental.

If you fiddled with the black water gauge sender then you would have prob been moving the ecu water temp sensor slighty which is right next to it, that would have been what made it improve so try clesning it etc.

that was 1st one i tried, but didn't make a difference til i yanked the black one???? just been out and it started 1st time, quick spin without fault, i know it's only a matter of time til it plays up again

Give both the water temp and the smaller black spade connector a good clean with a small file, check for corrosion. Ptu sound more like, check the connections and clean also. ive got a spare tps if needed just to elimate one possible problem,
