I thought it was only Scotland that was having the strike?

Its the usual panic buy situation, most petrol stations have the facility to hold upto 200,000 lites which will happily last them a couple of weeks at a normal sales rate, but panic sets in and their sales increase ten fold taking 14 days worth of fuel down to being 1.4 days thus they run dry.

I used to run a petrol station and when the "appear" to have run dry you can bet your balls they havent, theyll be keeping a bit back for "friends and families".

I remember the last lot of big fuel strikes, i made more money in tips and backhanders than i did in wages keeping the right people on the road!

when panic buying starts you cant do anything but go with it, otherwise you end up the only one with no fuel, i filled up both cars today to be safe, dont wanna be caught out like i was last time there was a fuel shortage.

The only reason there will be a shortage is because of the :xxx: panic buying, which leads to the stations running low. The Suppliers can't keep up with the delivery demand by road tankers.

Suppliers Normally have 10 wks worth tucked away but we shall see.

What I'd give to be on the petrol tankers again at the mo :D

Wouldnt be so bad if this was something to bring down the price of fuel, but the way its looking with this one all its going to do is force the price up more.

The only reason there will be a shortage is because of the :xxx: panic buying...................

That's so true......

......but I don't blame the public for not wanting to be caught out. It's the media causing the panic buying.

Bloody TV, papers and radio keep reporting the strike action every 5 minutes; then going on about the threat of a fuel shortage before there's any evidence there will even be one. Also they keep broadcasting crap stories of long queues at petrol stations; this only winds up the masses causing frenzied buying and generally making things worse.

I went to re-fuel this morning because my car was running on reserve. Luckily I was early and the Shell near me virtually emtpy. However overnight the owner had put the price of regular unleaded up to £1.13 per litre (v-power was £1.22).......cost me £80 to fill the SLK

The chap said he only did it to discourage panic buying (yeah, right!!!) - so I said raise u/l to £1.20. Hopefully no-one will buy any at that rate and they'll still be enough for me next week..........:nelson:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

well i aint going to fill up, i aint queing amongst that lot!!

Its absolutely ridiculous tbh. I remember the fuel shortages in was it 2000, where it got to the stage medical professionals had to have priority over fuel.

The plant is on standby so it would be back up and running in a couple of days.

As for them putting their prices up they should be done for bloody extortion.

i'm in the south east and it's already a problem getting fuel the chap at the local station said whereas most of his regulars will put in 20 quid they are filling up its the same as when they say we're getting snow everyone is straight out buying bread and milk and they probably don't even need any.
