Grrrrrr Pop-ups...can't get rid of them.

Since going on a property website yesterday, I've been getting pop-ups appearing; ranging from bingo, to communications systems. There's about 5 different ones. Now, no matter what I do, they still appear. My pop-up blocker is on, I've installed a new version of Norton, switched my firewall on to its highest setting, tried blocking the above websites, set my security to block medium-high to avert 3rd party cookies.

It's really getting on my noodle too! To add to that, in the past few days, my keyboard is running slow and intermittently misses a letter out that I am typing etc. Usually about every 10th letter.

Any help would be great.

have you run a full scan with norton? sounds like something I kept getting, cant remember the name of it though

  • Author

I've done a full scan Zairs, yes, with latest updates. Norton can't fix it. I'm on BT Broadband Forge.

thought IE was what you was going to say. thats one of the main reasons i switched to firefox as the pop ups with IE was just crazy. never get them with firefox.

Well, it's got a pop-up blocker and I didn't have this problem last week.

yeah. i went for ages with IE without many problems, then all of a sudden the pop ups started. they were a real PITA & could not get rid of them. thats why i changed to FF. been using it now for quite some time and never had any probs with it.

There must be a way of getting rid of this. I have load of things in my 'favourites' etc.

when you install FF, it gives you the option to transfer all your favourite from IE.

have you tried running updates for windows and downloading the latest security patches?

i had the same problem a month ago ,

Christ! All that stuff has to come off?

No change I'm afraid. IE is struggling to launch. The only way I could get it to fire up was to open an existing saved webpage.

Have you tried SpywareBlaster?

Also check the obvious and see if any new toolbars have appeared (IE\View\Toolbars) and check Add/Remove Programs for new progs you don't recognise.

  • Author

No new tools. I've used something by takemetothepub that would check for spyware programs?

  • Author

Well I tried installing firefox and that's even worse! Whilst the popups are stopped, the thing just hangs. Back on IE now.

Really really starting to piss me off.

hi, I had a similar problem a few weeks ago and a mate installed and ran the following, Ad-awar 2007, spybot and Regestry Mechanic. They can all be found on the net.

Each one found and removed different things, seems to have done the trick.

Might help, certinlay shouldn't do any harm.
