First of all let me congratulate you on getting yer mota back on the road:bow:

But secondly may I politely ask you why you want to fit a vinyl plastic seat kit to such a car???? Nissan stopped fitting vinyl covered seats in 1976 when they introduced the 260Z facelift model. Prior to that Zeds had vinyl seats like in my 240Z. For the sake of originality most 240Z owners (like me) stick with the sweaty, hot in summer, cold in winter plastic but I fail to see the reasoning in reverting back to a seventies style materiel in anything produced after the seventies???

Leatherette is fine for the panals as long as its not the plasticly shiney looking cheaper stuff, but I'd never use it for the seats.

Agree with Pete. 'Sometimes' it can look good. But if you're going to do it, do it properly. Vinyl is a cheap shiny product that GM used to trim their Bedford CF2 van seats with, not something I'd even replace tweed with. Vynil also doesn't feel nice like leather does, it feels somewhat clinical. It also doesn't have that nice smell either or feel nice to the touch compared to leather.

hey Pete

i can see your reasoning, but it is described as "not vinyl" and being far value for money than leather (which i have had prices from £950+vat+fitting to £1500+vat+fitting) i am looking for something that will get stained, will get rips, will get scuffs, and in a few years from now, can replace again at an affordable price at which leather will cost me too much.

or am i being a bit tight towards my 300 interior, i dont know!??

thanks for yor input guys,

alan.

Leatherette, vinyl, plastic, man made, fau leather, super secret space age material, whatever you want to call it will usually look okay however it won't wear or breathe like leather so if you don't mind having a sweaty ar*e it could be worth it. Also most 'retrim kits' and a lot of OEM stuff only use leather in the seating areas i.e. the seat base and inner bolsters, the rest is usually vinyl, it's pretty common practice in the automotive industry and it's still called a leather interior! It's very difficult to tell if your interior is all leather or seating area only. If its a kit cut the foam backing(should have a foam scrim back if it's any good at all) and check that the back of the leather is genuine i.e. rough unprocessed suede type leather, if it's a material type weave it's a vinyl, other more final way is to wave a lighter over it, if it's leather it'll be unmarked if it's vinyl watch it melt!

I have a retrim set in blue for a SWB somewhere in the shed.
