Peeps,

Ive come across a little problem. With the combination of being poorly fitted, someone nudging the spoiler in a carpark and lots of speed bumps, my high level bomex spoiler has managed to work itself loose.

To be honest im pretty appauled to the standard it has been fitted, with a combination of self tapping screws and double sided tape, see below. It has always been 'loose' since buying the car and has always wobbled a little bit.

My question is to those who have high level spoilers, HOW have they been fitted?

Has your been subjected to the same treatment as mine and been attached with a combination of screws and tape, or has it been stuck on using a strong bodyshop adhesive such as sikaflex or similar.

Im going to take off the lower level spoiler as well, as im not happy with how that is fitted either, so no doubt i will have some unpleasant suprise when that is removed.

Cheers in advance

Nick

Nick mine was fitted in back in 2001 it has had a lot of force trying to rip it out over the last few years I can tel you.

Coach bolts and Sikoflex is what PPS used and its not moved at all.

you look rather short in that pic nick. pmsl. mine is bonded on with something similar to that awful bloody stuff that the rear lights are held in with. plus 2 screws on each side on the inner lip of the boot.

Hi Nick

When i fitted my spoiler i wanted it as secure as possible so did away with the little pre moulded nuts in the spoiler by drilling them out and bonding replacements in with resin, i drilled big enough holes in the boot lid and fitted the spoiler with m10 bolts and also used locktite,i also used sikaflex which helps seal from water and also adds extra security on the slight off chance the bolts work loose but unlikely....lol

cheers Paul

Sikoflex! Hasnt moved at all.

sikaflex and screws for mine too, hasnt moved at all

PPS fitted mine in the same way as Mac's and then blended the paint over it and it's never moved in the last 5 years or so.

It's had people using it as a handle to open the boot on many occasions with no problems :mac1:

Nick more info on it.

Sikaflex® -221 is the most well known brand of one component polyurethane sealant/adhesive in the world. This fast curing product provides permanent elastic adhesion to a number of surfaces with excellent cut and tear resistance. Considered by many to be the ultimate choice in truck, trailer, RV and bus manufacturing. Designed to resist the shock and abuse encountered over countless road miles, Sikaflex® -221 will maintain its strength and adhesion over the long haul. Sikaflex® -221 is weather resistant, sandable, paintable and NSF approved for potable water and incidental food contact.

It is our recommended adhesive for attaching carbon panels or components to cars. It is rubberised so accepts the vibrations and shocks that can occur.

No probs with mine.

Also done by PPS so I would imagine being the same spoiler as Mac's and being done at the same place by the same bloke it probably used the same stuff to fit it !.

Mine is same as alot of other people, screws and sikoflex, you could probably swing of it and it would'nt move :D
