Got the Z taxed yesterday after being away in hibernation for the winter. I've been working on the interior anyway, so it's pretty bare inside but took it for a spin anyway. Was nice to take it out again. Car was rattling and crashing around due to it having only 1 door card in it and 2 front seats! Sounded terrible. But the door I have completed sounds great though. Door card looks ace, fitted loads of sound deadening in it, replaced clips etc and it shuts with a nice quality thud now.

Battery was almost flat but it was enough to get it going. Sounded lovely as Zs do. Realised how much I need to do my suspension as the 'squelch' that comes from worn shocks is much more prevalent with no interior in the back. But I'll leave the interior out of the back until I've refitted the suspension in a few weeks time

Was just nice to be out in it again. :) :duffer:

LOL...it was yesterday and is today! Weekend looks pap, but I'll be doing some more wiring and refitting of interior. Just the front seats now that need trimming. :)

Itching to get back behind the wheel and take it for a long jaunt.

Good for you bud, glad there's nother Zed back on the road ;)

As i did the same last wkd i know excatly how you must have been feelin and i bet you had a smile from ear to ear :D

Nice one, does this mean we might actually get to see you car this summer? Are you going to Z008 by the way?

James

Have you replaced the brake fluid Si? Might be a good idea with the car being stood up over winter as the fluid absorbs water ;)

It was never actually off the road. Car's always been road worthy (MOT) and in running order. It's the first time I've not taxed it since I've owned it as even in the winter, if there was a mild day with no salt on the roads, then I'd take it out. But since I was stripping and trimming the interior, I thought there was no need to tax it.

My Z should be out and about in the summer, but unfortunately the shows always end up happening when I've pre-booked stuff already.

It's been stored inside in a dry garage, but yeah, I am sure it's absorbed some. I've got a 350Z brake upgrade planned in a few months time, so the lot will get done then.

Si any pics of your door with the sound deadening on ? Do you know how much you used per door ? What stuff did you buy in the end, any idea how much the stuff weighed ?

Dave, as you know, access to the inner skin from the door frame is really difficult. But I managed to cover a lot of it buy simply cutting sections, rolling them up loosely, putting them through the cutouts and carefully unrolling it inside spreading it out. I just layer it up too. The more layers you put on, the more it works. You MUST clean and wax the surfaces it goes on else it'll just not stick. Sticks very well to a polished surface. It's awkward, but doable.

I'll have used 3 rolls of the stuff when I'm done. It's called 'Ivanhoe' and is only about £15 a roll. But I've done bits of the transmission tunnel, the rear quarters and completely covered both sides of the retro fit metal speaker mounts. I covered some of the outer sections of the door frame too as much as I could.

I have got to do the other door, so I'll take a pic when I'm done.

I took out the window runners, cleaned then and regreased them too. I also lined the mount points with little tabs of sound deadening, so you've not got metal touching metal.

I still want to replace the little ball socket in the rear window runner to make everything as tight fitting as possible. But I'll probably do that in the summer or something.

...as for weight, well, I personally don't think it's that heavy. Weight-reduction junkies will of course argue otherwise. But something that weight in a car that big IMHO would make any difference. I'd say a roll a door. IE, a bag of sugar in each corner of the car.

Look forward to seeing that emaculate motor again Si. The last time I seen it on the road was a couple of years ago when Jimmer did some work on it.

I did not see you at any club events mate, and I certainly would not have missed your car. You going to Japfest this year, hopefully my car will be back on the road after getting a dodgey turbo from Z1, and they did not want to replace it. But all will be revealed later after Jimmer has sorted it.

Yeah he told me about that. They seem to have gotten their act together though so hope yours is back soon.

Last year I was away a lot and all the national events either fell while I was away or were just like miles away....I also had stuff I wanted to get done to my car before I put it on a club stand.
