over tightened the nut/bolt that goes through it an the nylon washers???

I'm sure there a torque figure somewhere for it

does the gear actually engage properly and then jump out or does it feel as though the gear didn´t really engage all the way ?..if that makes any sense

1st and 5th sometimes pop out(but do go in) and 2nd and reverse sometimes dont engage all the way, i say sometimes as usualy if ur quite firm(witch i doubt i should have to be) they will go in ok.

they do seem to be goin in a little easier a day after fitting, but still doesnt feel how it should.

Check the bolt that holds the a-frame of the shifter linkage to the rubber brace is tightened correctly and also that the bolt through the bottom of the shifter isn't too tight

ive not had any trouble with my short-shifter, although my gears (especially first) were very tricky to get in in the first place

There's not really much can go wrong with the fitting of it other than pointing it the wrong way round in which case it would be too near the dash and look a bit odd!

Wouldn't have thought tightening it too much would stop it going in gear, just make it stiff to move.

Which kit is it? Where from?

Had this myself. As the guys have said, the bolt that goes through the nylon bush is too tight. It needs to be slightly loose. The nut will not come off as it is a nyloc, normally. Tighten to torque settings will cure the problem. I fitted mine originally did not read the instructions, as looks easy to fit, had the problem. Removed and started again to instructions problem gone.

Regards
