Am I right in thinking the stock plug for the antenna lead is a 2 pronged affair? Is there some kind of adaptor you can get for it to fit aftermarket headunits? My old headunit didn't have one and I found that someone hadn't plugged it in and had simply ran an earth from it to the body of the car.

Cheers

I also need to get one, so annoying

And yes Funky it is a 2 Pin adapter which has a metal clip in on the side

You can get aerial ends to make your own fitting, got mine from a tv aerial shop for about £3

If you're talking about the plug that goes into the back of the radio, are you aware that the reason it is two pronged is that there are TWO aerials on the Zed......the noticeable electric aerial and a hidden one in the rear window.

No problem if you only connect to one but you lose the rear window aerial facility.

yes any car stereo shop or even halfrauds should sell the adapter, it is quite bulky as it goes from 1 nissan plug to 2 standard plugs, i know you wanted to keep cable to a minimum so you may be better off cutting off the stock plug and wiring a new one on.

as for the dual ariel function, it is no use unless you have a diversity reciever like the stock headunits (i've never seen one) so i just cut out the thinner wire. just joining the 2 cables together could easily make your reception worse rather than better.

Special order from Halfords but they do list in there book. Check ebay or Car audio specialist stores too.

Thanks guys. What wire goes to the aerial to give it its power...ie, the electric to power the aerial up?

Do you mean the power antenna wire from the headunit (operates aerial when unit switched on)

Yes. I think someone put up a link in one of my threads...I may have to check...

Sorry i do not fully understand this thread, so excuse me if what i am about to say is useless to you :( But i always understood that the aerial cable that goes in the back of the headunit is an earth, i know that the radio does'nt work without it being plugged into the back of the head unit :)

Funny you should say that as I pulled off an earth lead from it (previous bodged effort by Mr. Sushi.). The antenna however, wasn't even plugged into the headunit. Very bizarre! Probably why I could never pick up radio 2!

Well, I'll make sure everything's wired correctly when I fit my new Alpine headunit.

Would I have to get something like this and fit connectors to both leads? Or is there an easier way to do it?

I didnt connect the thinner wire and just cut it back out of sight, just using the thick aerial lead with the adaptor and my receptions fine bud

So the thicker wire is for the aerial antenna and the thinner wire is the rear screen antenna?

I have seen those. What's the middle connector for? I know the left hand side one is for the stock aerial and the right obviously plugs into the back of the headunit, but what's the centre one for? Incase you want a 3rd aerial??

Cool....so maybe I should just use that? I'm pushed for space behind my headunit, so it maybe a better option.

:) so you can plug something in to the screen aerial, not sure why it is a socket not a plug,

i bought one of them and cut the middle connector off to save space

havn't you got it fitted yet?

Fitting it tomorrow.

Isn't the screen aerial one of the pins for the two pin plug??

yup, that's the point, having plugged your stock 2 pin plug into the 2 pin soket of the adapter, the main antena is wired to the useful plug that goes into your head unit and the screen antena is wired to the centre connector in the picture so you can plug it into something else if you wanted
