Without our knowledge or consent, I know the guys in the US had a load of problems with it and injectors, but am unsure what percentage biofuel is in their petrol?

are you sure ?..i.e is that still going ahead in the UK ? They had planned to up the ethanol contents from 5% to 10% over here next year January. They scrapped the idea

last weekend after figures showed that over 3 million cars wouln´t be able to run on it. so plan was scrapped this weekend gone.

in Germany mate..they were supposedly "leading up" this enviroment campaign thing and had been talking about introducing more ethenol since early last year based on figure that showed only a small amount of cars would be effected. more recent figures showed a hell of alot more cars would be effected and they scrapped the idea stating " they didn´t want the campaign to save the enviroment be the cause of forcing people to user super plus or their cars failing" just thought they might have followed suit in the UK.

The last thing I heard was that as of 15th april they are going to add 2.5% biofuel to all petrols?

Its certainly an interesting theory on cutting pollusion, stick a load of stuff in petrol so no ones car will work!

So can we all form some sort of suit against the fuel manufacturers for causing DET or similar to our precious engines? What a joke.

Ecu tweak fix it at all?

I thought some fuel already had 5%, but that's probably Tesco diesel.

if you see a wagon offloading 5 gallon drums of sunflower off in the station, you know why.

Does anyone actually know what the problem is with this "biofuel" additive?

iirc the Koenigsegg (sp?) produces more power when run on biofuel so why is it a bad thing for the Z32?

ah just read the first couple of posts and it seems it might have something to do with fuel injectors?

Is biofuel ethanol then? Is it the stuff thats made from oil seed rape? I thought ethanol was some sort of alchohol.

Its bad for the older style injectors (pre 95) but fine with the New Style Pintle-less Fuel Injectors I believe ?

Biofuels

We are already the UK market leader in biofuels and during 2007 we aim to double the proportion we sell. This means that customers will be able to buy a 5% bioethanol mix at over 300 petrol stations in the UK. This helps our customers reduce their emissions, as a car driven with our bioethanol mix petrol is responsible for 4.5% less CO2. We were the UK's first major retailer to incorporate biofuel into our standard petrol and diesel, with no price premium.

So Tescos is out for starters!

I thought the problem was that there is still a current running through some injectors when the engine is turned off so that and this screws them up, are the later injectors immune to this or is the engine management improved?

If that was the issue, I believe I once saw an article on the aus tech area on how to break the power going to the injectors when the ignition is off.

Yep - you are right, not an issue here in US for newer style. To answer the other question above -- in US it's in the fuel at a 10% mix. Already talking here about trying to get it increased up to 15 or 20%. It should be at least two years before that happens -- but this will be bad news for older cars here...

Unfortunately it's only a matter of time (everywhere) before global warming concerns cause these fuel changes -- my plan is to really enjoy my Z for the next 5 - 7 years because likely that's all we'll get from older cars (w/out making major changes to the fuel systems)...

Ooops - forgot to add in my reply above...

Had to replace all my injectors last year (some may have failed due to the ethanol?). I did re-do the injector electrical system so power is switched off when car isn't running. I have write-ups posted in the Twinturbo.net AutoFAQ section.

So far no issues - but would like to go another season to see (car ran just fine after being down for the winter)...

Dam that sucks jzack :(

Im sure that Shell V power will not do this this prob only on standard petrol.

Would a battery cut-off switch not cut the power to the injectors when the engine is off?

Yes, as well as knackering your alarm and de tuning your radio and re setting the self learn on the ecu!!

Which would be a bit of a PITA if you only nipped out for some milk!

(listening to the quads).
