Sometimes it does and sometimes it's fine?????

I have the R33 GTR set up with DBA slotted discs (brand new).

Someone told me it may be tension rod bushes but not too sure???

Anyone have any pics of these and how much are they to replace and how easy to replace?

If not this what else could it be??

Cheers

Hi Alex,

could well be that one of your disc's is warped?

Have just started to experience the same on mine, so will be changing to bigger discs, as this reduces the chances of it re-occuring?

Gaz

Not if the disks are "brand new" i doubt it...

these are tension rods with poly bushes installed.

has your car been lowered? if so what else has been done to the suspenion?

il have these rods complete with energy poly bushing £40 delivered if this is the prob.

Id say tension rod bushes, mine does this, its had it since i bought the car and i only realised what it was after everythign else had been changed!

End of the day, for the money the are worth changing anyway im sure it will be those!

Bugger beat me too it.

This is more than likely the problem.

Especially if your disks are new and it is intermittent.

Not a difficult job to change them.

mine had this problem , changed the discs but no change, just fitted ball joint tension rods and god the handling response is so different and the brake problem is gone

Oh dear here we go what???????????

It seemed to do it when i put the 33 GTR calipers and discs on.

When i put the new discs on it dissapeared then just appeared intermittantly.

I will change the the tension rod bushes but am thinking it could be the pistons which are not working evenly..........did someone mention a repair kit or new seal kit for this?

Cheers

Alex

if you've dropped it you'll need adjustable tesion rods as you'll need to set the caster

the caster, the camber, front/rear toe.

mine is almost complete..... just waiting on caster adjusters and need my arches rolled so i can pull the camber out a bit.

  • Author

Really where can i get them from and how much are adjustable tension rods and do i need both front and rear and how easy are they to set up?

Cheers guys.

Alex

Depends how much you have lowered it by. if youve only dropped 15mm i wouldnt worry about it too much as you can adjust the rears camber slightly... (i think 1 degree) but the front cannot be adjusted unless you buy shims or the lovely expensive shiny arms priced from 100-250 depending on make. Now the caster is different, its how far forward or backwards front wheels sit,a you NEED to buy adjustable tension rods if your cars been loweered alot coz you risk tearing your bottom arms, coz once you adjust the fronts camber to compensate for the lowering theres more of a twisted setup than stock, everything sits differently, and tyre wear wont be fun either.

Have look at this web site.

http://www.wheels-inmotion.co.uk/

It explains everything you would want to know about the geometry of a cars suspension.

They are just setting up a new work shop in north london area so might even be worth a visit.

Didn't lower it that much!

I'll check with Z centre that's where i bought the springs.

Do the poly bushes wear then and could this be my problem?

Also what's the story on piston refurb kits for the Brembo calipers?

Cheers guys.

Alex

If your talking about the oem bushings on the tension rods they are not poly they are rubber ones filled with a sticky silicon (sorry cant spell) but yes the oem ones do tend to split vey easily so uprated would be the best option as they are stronger and cheaper.

You can get a rebuild kit for brembos, ive seen a website who sell all the kits, hopefully someone will find the link for you.

if the brembos are new then why would they have bad pistons? The seals are what wear, the pistons can be cleaned and rubbed down a bit.

If i was you i would jack up the car and have a look to see if one of the bushings is leaking. They are really easy to see. The tension rods are attached to the bottom arm and the other end with the bush is to the front of the car just beside the intercooler pipes.. i think.

Brembo's weren't new the discs are the Brembo's are 2nds.

I'll check for the pistons working properly...

Wasn't there an issue with poly bushes which caused metal fatigue to occur in the front chassis brackets to which they are attached? I thought the rose-jointed ones were the only safe option.

yep rose joints are what ya need if ya suspension is aftermarket ei lowered.

the standard/poly dont have enough twist at that geometry so instead of the bush twisting the bottom arm tries to twist but it cant so it brakes of instead. Im fitting rose joint adjustable 2mow morn soon as i wake up and have my tea:D

I writen this same post about 10 times in the last week......
