i know i shouldnt be worrying about fuel in these cars and generally i dont but recently the car has been using SO much fuel. im getting about 180 miles to a full tank.

this is mainly doing motorway journeys with NO boost as i have a massive boost leak somewhere and the car wont go above 3.5k rpm while moving.

it has a jwt chip, straight through exhaust, induction kit and stage 1 turbos...whatever that means.

there seems to be alot of problems all coming at once now, on my way home today the tempreture guage just dropped to zero and didnt move but everything seemed fine.

thanks,

Joe

No, that would be 2400rpm. I would check whether the O2 sensors are good, if they fail it can run very rich. Also worth checking the engine temp sensor.

The temp gauge doesn't affect the running of the car - just nice to have.

Oh, and fixing the boost leak would be a good idea too ...

depends what you call a full tank, its actually somthing like 72 litres, but ive never got more than 57 in mine since the gauge is so inaccurate. of that 55 to 60l ish i get around 220 (17-18mpg) with a mixture of all driving, some booting some cruising some town now its a manual raising to 300 if i drive like jesus on the motorway, which equates to about 24mpg.

Temperature gauge just going to zero is going to be a temperature sendor failing - mines done it once, went over a cats eye and it came up again lol

Id look at sorting that boost leak out, once youve fettled that then turn your attention to the fuel economy. End of the day your getting about 15mpg (if you get 55 litres in) which isnt far off what i used to get out of mine when it was an auto... raising to 240 miles on all motorway.

The car wont rev past 3.5k rpm and your worried about the fuel ecomomy !?!?

First things first - Do an ECU test to check error codes.

Also - Vacumn/Boost leaks, depending on where they are will not only affect performance but also Fuel economy.

What happens exactly with the car not revving past 3500 ? Does it rev fine until about 2500, then rough above that..until it feels like your getting fuel cut ?

You really dont want to be driving it until you fix these issues.

Temp gauge failure = Bad connection on the sender (the little black connector on the top water pipe)

the cars fine upto 3.5k but then wont get any higher, all that happens is a very loud turbo noise, sounds like someones in the engine bay with an air gun and theres no boost at all.

i wasnt too worried about the temp guage. just gets you a bit unnerved when your 200 miles from home!
