Moved my car to get wifes car out, turned it off went to start again and now wont start. Cant hear the fuel pump activating, swapped the fuses under the bonnet and still nothing.

Check your CAS connection first....Failing that could be the Fuel pump controller or the relay

was loose but still nothing

Do you get any lights on the dash?

yep

do they go dim when the key is turned

is the car used daily

 

try battery leads /check if its got plenty of power

alarm

stater wires

might not hear the pump cos its already up to pressured

it was working 10 mins beforehand

try taking the wires off the battery wait 2 mins then reconnect then try to start

tried that and still nothing :(

just seen your other post have you been messing with the egn wires

that wouls explain a lot go back to the last thing you did and undo it:D

thats the thing i havent touched anything

is it an auto ? if yes then push the gear selector forward when in P keep your hand on it and turn key

Have you checked the ptu??? and connectors (should have been checked first)

Try push starting it to see if it's a starter issue?

Not the starter I can hear it, it think its something to do with the fuel pump, I have always been able to hear it untill now.

Checked both PTU and CAS. Havent cleaned up the connectors but made sure they were on. Just seems weird how it was working one minute and not the next.

Yes! sounds like ptu still! You should really clean up those connectors and try a known working ptu first. (process of elimination)

Take a coil pack and plug out, reconnect the coil pack to the harness plug and insert the spark plug into the coil pack, take out the fuel pump fuse and crank the engine over to Test you have a spark.

Get some one to crank it while you check. Make sure the plug is touching an earth at the end.

Unless you try and eliminate what it could be first no-one can help you!

 

We should have a sticky/guide for helping to eliminate starting problems?

Marcus, clean up the Cas sensor connectors too! and while you have a plug out have a sniff over the plug hole to see if there is a smell of fuel in the cylinder.

I assumed it wasn't turning over :) Check for a spark first so you can eliminate an ignition system problem and then move onto the fuel but having said that whilst checking for a spark you will be able to at least see if there's fuel in the cylinder that you've taken the spark plug out of because the plug should be wet with fuel.

Marcus, the fuel pump does not run continuously, but only if signal is received from the CAS unit. Using a sharp point mark exactly the position of the CAS unit on the adjusting screw. Remove bolts from it and pull away from camshaft. Turn on the ignition, do not turn over the engine. Now turn the shaft on the CAS by hand in the same rotation as the engine (clockwise looking at the front), You should be able to hear the fuel pump cutting in and more importantly the injectors clicking. If you cannot then it is either your PTU failed or your CAS unit, or a break in the cable in between.

are you supposed to just remove the 3 bolts from the front then it pulls away?

Yes but some do jam over time! Try twisting side to side and use a slight pulling force too but remember to mark its original position first.

yep mine is well jammed, will try tomorrow when its lighter.
