OK lets try for a straight answer to this one then.

What sort of power figures are people running though the standard gearbox.

The boxes are used in cars running 600bhp+ but can suffer at these levels.Mine takes 440 fine but Mac1s car eats them. Its the torque that destroys the syncros.

The Junspeed record holder at 260mph(ish) was running 1000bhp and a standard gearbox...

Yeh for a few miles then it retired to a muesum somewhere.

So for 800bhp I'd need a uprated box then:rofl:

the os giken gear set is rated up to 800 bhp as is the ppg gear set but thats a dog exchange so it wont be the nicest car to drive and will wine like a dog on heat ;)

Thanks for the replys.

I've been looking at the PPG gearsets, the noise is'nt going to bother me alot as the car is going to be stripped out anyway.

Does anyone now where the weak link is in the boxes, i.e do the snycros go first or do the teeth strip off?

I would say synchros. I've never heard of a box stripping its teeth before.

It's a good excuse to go for dog engagement really isn't it? LOL

Oh, and to add, the layshaft bearings will suffer if the oil drops too low.

Are the N/A & TT gaerboxes the same?

They are different. Internals are different as is the Bellhousing (Thinner in places on the TT to accommodate the different flywheel & clutch).

Witch is the better box then? I'd say it'd be the TT box, stronger cause of the extra HP.
