Hi guys and welcome to another dreary rainy weekend.

Went to start my Zed after 1 month of not driving it to find that the battery has gone completely flat.

I've had car's before that start first time even after a prolonged absence of starting them and they've all started first time and never has the battery gone COMPLETELY FLAT.

The only thing I can think of is that the Thatcham alarm drains the battery big time.

Is this normal??? What else could be draining it??

Has anyone else experience this after a prolonged absence of using their Zed?

Cheers,

PS- only 2 weeks to the meetup.

I had to change my battery last week. Rang around for prices and found for speed & convenience Kwik Fit were cheapest for a product with a decent guarantee (£69).

But the shocking bit of the tail is that the guy at Kwik Fit appeared to know a bit. He said that battery life on twin turbos is reduced by the amount of heat under the bonnet speeding up the evaporation of battery fluid. He then opened up my old battery (which was less than 2 years old) and he was right !

The moral - despite the fact that you feel like your grandad, it's worth topping up your battery from time to time !

Surely your alarm should complain (loudly) when the battery voltage drops below a certain level? Mine certainly does!

Jonny,

Good point and I can't explain why my alarm hasn't complained loudly.

Hairsy,

Thanks for the top up tip, I will check it out this week.

I am a bit sceptical as I rarely boot the car for it to get so hot under the bonnet that the battery fluid evaporates. I will let you know how I get on after I check the level.

This is still baffling me a tad;-(

Cheers for your tips guys.

Guys thanks for every ones input.

This has been the first fairly wet free Saturday, I have had a look at the battery and as Hairsy quite rightly said it was a quite low on fluid.

Filled it up and now charging it. I hope this will cure the problem. The car has alos been experiencing a little hesitation and I read somewhere that the Battery can play a part in this, I have got my fingers crossed that its just the low battery causing these problems.

I will now for definate later today.

Cheerz.

My battery also went flat with the car unused a few weeks. The real problem was the Clifford 50X alarm that then decided to forget the remote. I could not open the car with it or start it till I found the right valet code to disable the alarm and re register the remote. Meanwhile the alarm drove the nieghbours crazy.
