Adjustable shocks question...............

I've been reading a few past posts and some Zeds have the adjustable shocks. Were they standard on all Zeds??? (mines a 91 TT import)

I don't think mine are adjustable, if you have these fitted how do you adjust them? Is there a button fitted in the cockpit for sports/comfort???

THANKS IN ADVANCE.....

George,

The 3 way Gas Adjustable come on the US spec TT models, im not sure if they were stock or a option.

The UK spec ones do not come with them, i would have thought the Jap ones are the sames. not sure tho, im sure someone else will.

If I remember correctly only the US models have this option. There is a switch by the wing mirror adjustment controls that toggles between sport and touring mode. Jap/euro models have an automatic adjustment on the rear shocks. When you accelerate hard an actuator stiffens the damping(I think) to reduce squattig effect. They is no manual control.

Not fair this, standard for US models accorging to the handbook...my Supra Turbo I had before this Nightmare 300ZX, they were the same, had TEMS, Toyota Electronically Modulated Suspension button on the centre console.

Never quite understood why them damn yankees got adjustable suspension when the roads are shit hot in US, plus max. speed limit is only 50 trotskies/per hour. And they got T-bar aswell...always have to be bigger and better then everybody else eh?

Guys thanks for the info.

I must have been reading the posts on TT.net, as they often were talking about the different modes they can set the suspension in.

Lucky Yanks.

According to the workshop manual the rear shocks can be put into sports mode by clicking the handbrake up one notch. If you want to check for the control box its on the body by the rear passenger wheel arch, but you need to remove the wheel arch trim/seat.

That's very true, was told the same from a top Nissan guy...

UK TTs definitely have adjustable rear shocks and I think this goes for all TTs. Getting the handbrake light on when parked puts them stiff. You can feel the diifference on a bounce test. Even when driving with the handbrake on notch one. I understand from this forum that the ecu controls them with some reference to speed and throttle opening though I dont know under exactly what conditions they stiffen up. I just fitted new stock rear shocks myself so I saw first hand how the actuators fit and made sure they all worked. Its in the manual.

William,

I just bought some second hand shocks for my TT. I posted this after i bought them and some of the boys advised that its a bit dodgy doing this as you don't know what condition there in.

Where did you buy your stock ones as I may need to get them new, depending on the mechanics opinion on the condition of the second hand shocks I bought. Also do you mind telling me how much they were roughly?

Oh.. one more question do UK TT stock shocks fit the Jap import TT?

Many thanks to everyones input.

According to service records on mine the fronts expired around 80k and the rears around 105k. Got mine from Nissan they are at approx £100+VAT each retail but I got a -35% trade deal via a friend who worked for Nissan at the time. I hear everythings much cheaper via USA.

As I understand it they are the same shocks made by Tokico. Only NA cars and maybe Australia different.

Fitting them is easy once you get the trims off and use a spring compressor. You have to start from the rearmost middle panel and work round from there. One of my actuators was unplugged at the connector - maybe when speakers were fitted or suchlike and it had a hop on that side over potholes. It is important to get the actuators on the ends properly. Hope this helps

Willie

Hi,

Do the Jap spec NA's also have adjustable rear shocks?

  • 2 weeks later...

I think its only TT's that have the electrically adjustable rear shocks. This is confirmed by the manual. NAs are softer.
