london is the nuts... 7 quid for a day pass on the tube and you can literally go anywhere. i recently went to the tutanchamun exhibition at the dome and then went on a tour of pubs using the tube :D

lots more to see and do as im sure peeps will advise...

Natural History museum is very good, but expect to take 2/3rds of a day up.

If you can book in advance for the London Eye is something well worth doing.

And take a walk down the embankent from the millenium bridge down to westminster bridge then over to parliment square.

That should keep you going for a while

The Natural History Museum will have a heaps of dinosaurs.

I really worry about you Northern types, planning a trip to 'that' London nine months in advance ! LOL

you'l need more than a few days mate.

Madam Tussauds

London Eye

Liescester Square/Piccadilly square.

Oxford St

Knightsbridge

Tower Of London

Buck House

The Mall

Trafalgar Square

Big Ben & Parliment

Hyde Park/St James Park

Whitehall

Theatre Land

Shall I go on???

soho ;)
Yeah forgot about that, but a word of warning, make sure theres a few of you, and you stick together.

we aint got a lot of money, just hoping to see a few sights and just get away for a few days

I've been to London a few times when i was doing my training in the merchant navy in the early 90's(Gravesend Nautical College) and we only got as far as Soho..... McDonalds. :slap: I saw some other landmarks but i was only interested in going on the piss. I even got caught short on the way from Gravesend to Charing Cross, as i was needing a pee and as there was no loo's on the train i decided to do my buisness out the door of the empty carriage just as it pulled into the station :mac1:

if you get chance do a bus tour, and if ya still there on the sunday go to liverpool street, the market is amazing

Allan is going more than 5 miles from his house  Wonders never cease!!!

I work in soho everynight.... what a dump.

as soon as you walk out the door theres a sex shop like 8 feet in front of ya so be sure to visit all of them and its just on the red light district. Dont forget to chat to the local crack heads while your at it and dont mistake men for women coz its easily done...... if your not used to that kinda fing that is. For me its an everyday thing Loads of them walking about, it makes me shiver. :hurl:

So is that how you are paying for your engine rebuild?

I too work in London, the only site I would recommend is the London eye http://www.londoneye.com/ but the natural history museum, tate modern and the london dungeon are all good trips. Be prepared to pay through the nose though.

You should try and make the time to catch a west end show in the evening. I usually book through a site called theatre breaks ( http://www.theatrebreaks.com/ ) they do hotels and theatre tickets as a deal. I notice that they seem to attractions as well.

You will have to post up the dates and perhaps we can organise a meet.

I may be able to sort some stuff out for you to look at for the Tan Hill meet if you are going.

In that case just do one thing each day that costs and spend the rest of the walking/sitting about.Just soak up the atmosphere.

Nobody has mentioned taking the River boat trip all the way up/down the Thames.

This IMO is THE BEST "thing" available to do. The River Thames IS LONDON. gives you a wonderful perspective on the whole city.

Its not of course so spectacular as the EYE thingy but it lasts much longer and you see more stuff close up.

I took the Wife and Mother in Law to Baker Street a few months back to see Madam tussads and a few other places.

Book tickets in advance if you can and try and get a package with this included.

If you just turn up you are looking at £25 per person to get in and if there is a big queue you can jump it by talking to the rep outside and pay an extra £5 and pay by credit card, that gets you in ahead of the queues.

Worth it if you don't have a lot of time but not worth it if you don't have a lot of money.

Leaving london is always the highlight when I have to go. ;)

I personally find it one of the more unfriendly parts of the world.

One of the better things to do, is one of the London bus tours, I think the tickets were quite dear but they entitled you to take 6 different bus tours in one day and a riverbout tour, I went on one and I found it very interesting even though I live in London!

You can pick these bus tours up outside the Madam Tou's and the planetarium.

Baker Street may be an ideal starting point to be honest.

*edit* you can also go to the Ice bar there. It's a bar made totally from ICE. I think they do it by appointment, i.e. 20 min slots so you can go in have a beer and come out. 20 mins because of health and safety and also tourism.

Have got to admit not keen on the waxworks, I think I see enough of these people on the telly without paying to see an exact wax copy of them :)

The only 2 reasons I liked London was Ministry of sound and the fact that it was almost impossible not to leave with 1 or more girlies for some extra curricular activities.

Other than the clubbing I cant think of a single thing to go there for.
