Hi,

Does anyone run a diesel on a diesel/veggie oil mix? Contemplating doing it as diesel prices are just getting silly :(

it can be done but you have to have an oil heater, different injectors and all you fuel rail changed.

do you use any thype of heater for it or just mix a % of veg oil in with your diesel. I have a Turbo diesel escort and am interested in chucking a bit in. Any amount would be a saving even if it's only the odd couple of litres here and there

from what I can find, I'd be looking at a 50/50 mix in winter and 75 new oil to 25 diesel in summer.

Might have to give this a go cos i'm only getting 20mpg :O

ive heard it doesnt work without alot of mods on the newer diesel engines??

would love to do this as i noticed today that the asda diesel is not 111p per litre!!!

Have heard the older pre2000 cars run better on this, also a bosch pump is a must apparently!

My fiat turbo 1900 van ran well on it, went + revved faster, but didnt idle too well if you used too much veg oil, as it should always be mixed with diesel.!This is only because of the lack of detergents etc.

Teeny bit more smoke on the first start of the day+ the odd laugh from those who know why it smells of chips

I used the 'top gear mix' of 3% nasty white spirit, shaken into the oil .

This is supposed to stop 'gumming up', look in a fat fryer to see what i mean!

Afaik It is also a good idea to use sunflower oil, as its thicker than diesel + actually gives more power.

diesels originally ran on peanut oil btw (like you didnt know  )

My van loved it, as does most of the polish workers audi 1.9's,alfa romeo 2.4jtd's, peugot new small car+ a variety of old+ new stuff.Honestly, you can smell it + if caught by a 'switched on ' plod, you will have to pay duty on the fuel you have.woohey!

Just as an aside, i spoke to one guy that had done over 150000 miles in his late 90's hilux +hadn't had any aggro. :hyper:

just a shame theres no petrol equivalent  .......still theres always the acetone argument :x:

I ran a diesel 106 on 75% veg oil before and it fooked up the diesel pump. It cost me £350 to put right so all the pennies I saved was a complete waste.

A place by me was selling bio diesel for 75p a litre up until a couple of weeks ago. Now the greedy fooking goverment have got their hands on that now and it's 95p a litre.

No duty btw for a certain amount of veggie oil used, can't remeber exact amount!

It's a joke that they put the tax up on normal fuels and use the excuse of emmsisions and the enviroment but when you use something that is much cleaner for the enviroment, they still want to tax you :xxx:

I've got a 2001 Mondeo TDi and have been using 10% Asda vegi oil for a few years without problems. A few months ago I increased this to 20% and it still runs well. (Ford say in the handbook that you can use up to 5% without invalidating warranty).

When I started using it, vegi oil was less than 50p/ltr and you were supposed to pay the government some duty for each litre used. Now its over 80p! but you can legally use up to 2,500 litres per year without being liable for duty.

from what I've read it's a good idea to keep a record of what you use so yu can show them you haven't used more than 2500 litres ;)

you want to go for a merc 190d mate. one of the best cars for running with veg oil or filtered waste oil. the heavy duty bosch fuel pump Mark is talking about, injectors with wide tolerances, even a fuel preheater ideal for cold days but the guys that run it swear they never have any problems. You can get 2.0L or 5 cyl 2.5L versions and i think they are a good looking car too and are blessed with old school merc builitproof reliability. you can pick them up for less than £500 and the ins and tax is good too. everyones a winner!
