I am shortly going to be setting up my new Profec B Spec II.

I am fairly sure I know what I am doing and I have got my head round it all from speaking to many people and following these instructions.

Click for instructions

However, I thought I would have a quick browse through the archives looking at what settings people have been using and I got some strange results!

Why is the set gain so high? This is supposed to be the starting boost level?!? :confused:

14psi in HI, on stock turbos:-

HI:- SET=33%,

GAIN=21%,

SETGAIN=85,

WARNING=155

with a drop of 20%

14psi

set = 30%

gain = 10%

set gain = 85

warning = 150

warning limiter = 15%

set 23

gain 21

set/gain 70

warn 155

20%

Any ideas?

different tubs and different levels of efficiency from old turbos, springs on the actuators being a bit looser on some than others

settings will vary from car to car, start with the lowest and work your way up.

I think the setgain is how aggresive it tries to get to your desired boost level ie make the turbo's spool up quicker by keeping the wastegate closed as long as possible

too much and the boost will spike, too little and it'll take a while to hit full boost

I think Gain is used to control spiking and the Set gain is used to set the psi at which you want the boost controller to start.

The way I understand it, Neither the duty cycle nor the gain will come into play until the boost pressure has reached the set gain.

Is this right?

Basically yes.

Leave start boost (set gain) at 0 until the last thing.

Start with set about 30% and gain about 20. Do FULL THROTTLE runs in 3rd from about 2000rpm until redline if possible. You should be getting 10-12psi - if not adjust the set until it's around there.

Adjust gain until the spool up is quick and the boost is not unstable at high revs - you'll feel the car surge. What you're aiming for is the highest gain before the boost surges at high revs or spikes too much at midrange'

Once that's done then adjust the set to give the boost level you want.

Finally, set the 'set gain' at about 3psi below the running level - that should give you the best respons possible without affecting the stability.

Re-run in 4th if possible and if unstable reduce gain slightly.

Oh, obviously set the limiter to about 15.5 with around 20% cut too!

Gonna avoid the roads arouns St Albans for a few days then. :rofl:

Can just imagin Mike screaming down the road trying to set the whatsit while redlinning in third. :rofl:

Good luck with it.

I've got one coming soon, so I've got to do this. Mike can I come play at your house please?

Thanks John,

That is basically what I have been doing and it is working a treat. I have a consistent 13.5psi with only a little lag. :hyper:

Is the setgain unit in psi? or a %???

its in psi x 10 so set to 155 for 15.5.

Cool, that makes sense.

Thanks...

mgh297, sorry I dont know your proper name :nelson:

I'm going to be fitting mine soon(ish) did you set yours to exactly what Mr Dixon suggested and did you have to change anything ?

Hi Paul, my name is Mike, although some people call me George (long story!)

John's instructions are pretty much spot on.

What I will say is that every zed is different. I now run Giant Slayer's settings for low boost, even though they produce around 14psi on his zed it will only make around 10psi on mine!

I run basically the same settings as James Funge on my high setting but I have had to push the set up to 53% to get it to around 13.5-14psi.

The high setting is now pretty good, no spiking and pretty quick spool up.

If I had the time and inclination I would take it to a rolling road to setup properly. It can be a bit tricky trying to adjust it when on a publilc road.

Best bit of advice I can give you is to make sure you turn on the peak setting, as this will allow you to see if you are spiking...

Iv read ALL the posts on setting up a Greddy controller and iv finally sorted mine BUT what do I change to get a more aggressive boost punch at low revs??

Some pleple set their GAIN at 10% and others at 20% is this it or am I barking up the wrong tree?
