Last tuesday I had my tonsils out, everyone I met said how painfull it was and how I would be in serious pain for about two weeks, first two days after the operation are fine , in fact a breeze, I thought to myself if this is all its got then no problem, then along came friday and with it the agony, from friday to today the pain has been really intense, so bad even all my teeth are in sympathy with it and they all start to hurt like every one of them has toothache, decide to go see the local quack to see if I can get any stronger pain relief, so in I go tell him the symptoms and he asks what pain relief I am already on , so I tell him , Tramodol, cocodomol and diclofenic, he looks at me a bit strange and then asks " and youre sure you still get pain because what youre taking is what is given to cancer patients for the pain so I shouldnt feel anything" I assure him I am in fact a " lot " of pain and he looks down my throat, think its the first time I have ever seen a doctor go white and mutter " bloody hell", apparently when they took my tonsils out there must of been quite a bit of infected flesh with them as they have gone about the back of my mouth like a cave excavation and cleared the back of it almost bare, the doc joked that if they had gone any further they would of popped through my ears...lol, yeah im finding that funny.

Downside....there is no more pain relief I can be given, im maxed out , if I am in pain then thats the way it is, because of the amount of tissue removal and the area of it, hes given me antibiotics anyway as a security blanket , yeah im chuffed .

Upside.....in the last 4 days I have eaten 2 slices of toast and a slice of bacon, the diet starts now...lol

Suffered with me tonsillis for years but they seem to have settled down now. (touch wood)

Light at the end of the tunnel is that you won't feel like crap for weeks on end with your tonsillis the size of golf balls in the back of your throat.

Get well soon buddy.

I'm a surgeon.

You can try various gargles which will can numb the back of your throat a bit or if the pain is SEVERE you can get a direct local anaesthetic which you can just spray onto the painful areas.

The only downside with the second option is that you wont be able to swallow much for the next six hours since it might go down to your lungs.

Depends how much pain you are in I guess.

A Surgeon...on this site...blimey, I'd have though you'd be more into Porche turbo's, continental GT's, Lambos and other italian exotica... We're blessed.

Had my tonsils out when I was 5.... Still get excrusiating sore throats though.

I remember something called chloroseptic liquid from Vicks...not sure if it's still available though...numbed the throat for about 5 mins then you needed another burst. Also try eating angel delight.

Wow, I haven't had that since.. well since I was about 5.. Do they even still make that stuff?

Yep chemical heaven!

I get tonsillitis every year or two badly and need penecillin, my doc said it is better to just get the tablets than go through what is a barbaric operation :o

Strange cos 50 years ago they whipped everyones out in school once you got to about 11.

Well you would be if NuLabour hadn't given my career prospects such a shoeing - I'm working in Accident and Emergency at the moment whilst applying for a registrar post. Alway's loved the Zed since i was a kid - I found one of my Dad's porno mags while my parents were out one day and there was an advert showing a 300zx parked on a clifftop - above it it said "Impractical, uses too much petrol and far too much power for me to handle. I'll take one!" Been a fan ever since.

Last year I was working in Orthopaedics and my boss did a lot of private work - he is Man Utd's othopaedic surgeon. He drives a porsche turbo but my Silver SWB TT with Super Advans got more turned heads! (mainly from people saying - "what the **** is that?")
