As some of you know i am losing my job at the moment and finish on the 30th of April so looking around at opportunities at the moment but its a little slow up here at the moment but i have been thinking of setting up a business!!

My brother in law set up his own floor fitting business a few years ago but never did it right from the beginning and fell flat on his face but with his skills as a floor fitter and mine getting and running contracts it may be a good time to go it alone but its the risk involved, i have a family and a huge mortgage etc

So after advice, anyone else done it and can regretted it or the best thing you have ever done??

Mike

Just go slow and keep on top of paperwork and employ the right people if you have too !

I am still struggling with bills and debts just from running SWZ due to my lack of organisation !

The only thing I will say is its nice working for yourself but you cant just switch off at 5:30 etc i used to lye in bed awake worrying about paying this or what car was most important and it stressed me out alot !

I think the thing that worries me is you cant call your mortgage company up and say sorry i cant pay you as my customer has not paid me!!

massive gamble with everything on the line springs to mind but also you will never get rich working for someone else!!

god my head hurts LOL

You got to have a business head to succeed, be ruthless, skilled and determined.

No Mr Nice Guy, that never works. I saw how my dad struggled with his at times, working 20 hours a day on paperwork etc.

Also when things do go the wrong way it can create much tension in the family, when money ios low or they hardly see you because all your time is consumed working.

Im not not trying to put you off, it can be a great thing to do and my mum and dad never struggled in life, im just trying to put across the other side of the coin.

What would your business be?

Mr nice guy thas me !! :D

thats how i went wrong !

I have my own business and I am Mr Nice Guy - you CAN have your cake and eat it - just make sure you are firm and never let anyone take the P1$$.

Been self employed since 1989 [19 years] would,t have it any other way but its hard graft, i always say what you put in you will get back out, and if you dont try you will never know[ of course you have to be fixing/selling something people require ]
