Does anyone else have the same problem or know what this is?

Sometimes my Hicas light comes on and the steering goes stiff and speedo stops working if i flick the ignition off and on again quickly it all comes back it only happens every now and again. Any ideas anyone?

It is more than likely a short in the wiring for the speedo. As the hicas is speed sensitive this is why the steering is affected.

Can't help with a solution but it may help you trace something.

Im seem to remember that a faulty speedo converter (guessing you have an import) can cause this.

cheers for you replies i'll look into it next weekend. Yeah your right it is an import. between now and then though just flicking the ignition off and on seems to solve it in the short term. That'll please the missus another excuse to play with the zed the weekend. ha ha ha

The light will come on if you are low on power steering fluid, have you checked? Also, as mentioned... if your speed sensor is faulty the light will come on.

It can be a bad/incompatible speed convertor thats usually fitted behind the clocks on an import or a faulty speed sensor on the side of the gearbox ;)
