How many people on here have experience with these pistons?

They are going inside my rebuild.

Scott at nexus said hed rather fit pistons that he has tried and tested, he wouldnt like to fit them as he doesnt want to hurt his rep if they blow. Thats fair doos but im not looking for massive power gains just a set that can handle at least 17psi.

Im rebuilding the standard tubs myself and getting them balanced and having bigger injectors fitted at a later date.

I read recently max psi on oem tubs is around 16-17 am i wrong?

Also its debatable on which headgasket to use, oem or an uprated metal one, i heard uprated are more prone to failure, legrath you mentioned using a stock one.

I cant decide on these two options

help...

What are you lot using then?

I think the wiseco pistons are the piston of choice as from what i've read on here thats what most have when upgrading their engine and eagle rods.

they have slightly higher compression than others but if you do a search they are in a fair amount of the better built cars in teh US.

16-17 would be absolute max for stock tubs as far as I know. They run a lot happier at 14. Over 14 you're gonna need forged internals, bigger intercoolers, better radiator the list goes on. Personally mate I'd go for 14 PSI and have it running happily all day long rather than push it too far and run the risk of something going bang.

There are companies which will refurb your tubs and upgrade em to stage 2. By machining out the housing and fitting larger impellors. There is a company in the states that will do it. However they will only ship inside the states.

Tub upgrades

I spoke to em and they seemed pretty cool. HTH

Wiseco are by far the most popular Forged piston choice for the 300zx. They use standard compression ratio.

You wont need new Rods. Especially with stock tubs. Standard are Forged anyway so you can save money there.

All of the Turbo companies in the UK do the same too.

I got a rebuild kit for the tubs, its an upgrade kit for $65. The only thing it doesn't include is step gap piston rings. Which you can buy from melett for the princely sum of £2.68. Search through some of my older post there are links there as I don't have em to hand.

What do you mean by upgrade kit? whats different?

i have messaged silverbullet and he has done quite a few tub rebuilds and has given me part numbers for the rebuild kits including the piston rings.

Would this kit be different to the one your talking about?

One more thing, are the auto and manual tubs the same, im assuming they are but i just wanna double check.

oh and thanks legrath for the info and thanks mowerman :D

haha your joking right?

Auto turbos are smaller. They make less power but spool up a little quicker to try and make up for the slushbox.

damn it, silverbullet gave me part numbers on the auto tubs so now i have to look for the correct parts again.

haha your joking right?

I jest you not :D smaller to spin up faster to make up for the gear ratio's of the autobox or summit

Oh and any recommendations on head gaskets? Should i stick to the one supplied with the z1 kit, or go for a metal one?

Upgrade kit means instead of 270 degree thrust bearing you get 360 degree one. Combine that with step gap piston rings you shouldn't get smoke from your tubs anymore. Look up Kansai sport on ebay. Thats who I go mine off.

Not sure I would bother rebuilding the turbos, if you cock it up then the money you saved will be thrown away with the cost of pulling the engine again!

I wont balls it. il rebuild them then get them balanced.

Im quite good with precision. I think il do a good job :)

silverbullet has done 4 so far :) Hes given me some tips already.

Cosmetic headgaskets seem to be a popular upgrade - i have them and Wiseco pistons in mine. not had the chance to open her up properly yet as still running in :(

Cosmetic headgaskets

I think that's "Cometic" ;)
