Well my car is currently being resprayed to a colour called "Atlantis blue"....which is a sort of two tone green/blue colour from TVR.

Just had a call from the painters who have asked for another 3 litres of paint onto of the 4 that I've already given them.

Seems strange considering the shop I bought it from stated 4 litres would leave paint to spare. I recon they've spilled the original 4 litres at some point.

Depends on wether you use Dulux one coat or normal gloss. :slap:

If you are doing a colour change and painting all the door shuts about 2 ltrs and if you painting the engine bay area + rocker and throttle covers then about 2.5 ltrs and an exra ltr for touch ups or repairs in future.

3 litres should cover it m8 should give it about 4 coats trouble is if ya not seen it being done they can do what they want and you just :headvswal then pick up the bill afterwards my friend is doing mine and he told me i wil actually get away with 2 litres but thats only 3 coats so ima goin for 3 litres + primer hope it helps

they might be having trouble with the covering of the paint, u want at least! 3 coats of paint and as many coats of laquer as pos , what colour was your car before ?

With this kind of colour the base coat would be green with the blue over the top and 3 litres per colour is enough, by the time you've mixed it with the thinners you would be looking at 6 litres of colour if you use a 50/50 mix. If it is a single colour 4 litres is more then enough, then you have the clear coat over that.

Green...it's on my avatar.

It was stripped primed and is now being painted....they've said it's a little transparent....

Oh well 60 a litre, 7 * 60 = 420 plus Vat = 493.50 on paint alone....jeez....This betta be fkin worth it.

The mota will be at Japfest this year, hopefully in brilliant sunshine to show of the radiance that is...."Atlantis Blue/Green...no blue again" It'll be like an acid flash back for some you.

Mine was done using about 2 litres, i bought 3 litres and have about 1 left for touch up etc...seems looks of paint in your case bud

Sounds like a pearl colour which are a little transparent but if the car has been primed it shouldn't be a problem.

The number of top coats also depends on wether the paint shop mix their own paints or buy it in and the quality of paint. A body shop that mixes its own paints will generally use an undercoat mixed to the same colour as the top coat thus 2 or 3 coats is more than enough. Also it depends on what kind of colour you having. The Candy colours like my blue Zed rely on the light from the white base coat being reflected through the paint. It means that the top coats have to be very thin and evenly applied to enable consistency of colour. So there are no hard and fast rules as to the number of coats etc. You should check the quality of the work going out of the door, get recomendations and then be guided buy the shop you choose.

Even then it doesn't alway work out. Cheep never produces the best result unless you know them and that is the reason for cheap. Quality will mean a busy body shop and usually aroud £2500 to £3000 for a full respray and colour change.

if you aint happy with the finish tell them to keep the car til its right, theres no way you'd need 7 ltrs of paint, its not a fookin bus
