Open ended Wheel nuts = rusty studs messing up my wheels!!

I have open ended wheel nuts (look like sockets) and whenever the car gets wet or washed i get rusty water all over my wheels from the studs !!!!

 

What can i seal them with that wont act like a locktight ?? Was thinking of a paintbrush with some laquer on or something ???

    wheels off, WD 40+wire Brush, Small amount of grease to prevent rust?

    Not 100% sold on greasing my wheel nuts. but like the wd40 idea!! Could put some grease in the end of them once nuts are done up ?
