Hi, theres a nut on the gearbox sump. Get the car up and level and drain the fluid through the drain plug (nut underneath), You can also take the sump cover off and check the seive for any particles etc. one of the traders on here can provide a new seive and a new gasket for putting the sump cover back on.

You re-fill the box via the dipstick tube in the engine bay. Mine took just over 8 litres of dexron III oil.

thanks

shit!! how many litres!!!!!

he had forgotten to do up the drain valve at the bottom and wondered why the floor was slippy.

I'm joking I know nothing about auto's other than the fact I don't like em. Too much lazy driving. ;)

You got a uk auto right??

Should be 9 Litres in Total, bu i guess i had some in the oil cooler too. Yours may be less as youl have oil left in the oil cooler pipes etc. Opie oils do 2 5 litre cans of good oil quite cheeply and its also the same stuff as the transmission fluid so the extra few litres are not wasted

says here that it should only take 3.5 litres?

I think the 3.5 litres is all you will get out from draining at the plug as there will still be 4 litres + in the system (torque convertor hold quite a bit). If your ATF is contaminated i'm sure i've read on here that there are places that will flush all your old oil out the system while adding your new ATF. Thats what i would do rather than adding 3-4 litres of new fluid to old contaminated oil.

Well with the auto's I work on when we flush I use ATF to mix with the burnt/poor condition oil as being honest the damage will be done to the clutch's if the oil is origionally in poor condition so i'd say best to stick with ATF. Saying that with regards cost my old work sold a 20 litre drum of ATF for about £50 so when I seen 3 almost full drums one Sunday night while on call out lying next to the sevice pits they ended up in my garage.

I dropped the gearbox sump on my zed (as the oil wasnt that burnt) to check the filter and there was no debris clogging the filter, I changed it anyway then filled it with oil, ran the car round the block until warm, then let the car cool down and changed the oil again with fresh atf. I still dont have full 100% 3rd gear and am convinced its a solenoid rather than terminal damage but will be converting to manual soon!
