If the new Nissan GT-R is only £30k in Japan why does it work out at £60k if we want to buy one here?

Taxes certainly play a big part. but there are other costs to recover.

I believe predicted price is going to be more like £55k in the UK, but will be of higher specification than the Jap spec - with Satnav, leather and other options all standard.

Then there are the specification changes required to meet UK legislation (fogs, bumper shapes fir number plate sizes...etc) and other UK specific changes (ECU remapping, spring rates, speedo..etc). Dealership training and tooling costs, promotional costs, Importing costs...etc

Not to mention bigger dealer profit margins because of economy differences.

Its the same for all Jap Models, not just the latest GTR

because they want to price it as a supercar, make it more exclusive.

It can't be that. I just saw on 5th gear, that if you buy one in Japan, it will only cost £30k but once it shipped to the uk it costs nearer 60k due to taxes?

i know is a long way, but could you buy one and drive it home????

Fantastic holiday :D

the official one will be 55k-60k

not sure what the grey import cost would be, 40-50k i would have thought

its going to be that much in Blightey because we are silly enough to pay it, like with everything we just pay up, put up and shut up!!

If no one paid it, they wouldnt be able to charge it.

Costs can be broken down as follow:

Car £30K

VAT @ 17.5% = 5250

Plus 10% shipping duty = 3525

Shipping cost = 1K

registration/tax = 500

total = £40275...so where does the extra 20K come from.

basically to impart a car add 30% to the retain/auction price and you'll be there or there abouts.

For an extra 20K I'd expect another 400BHP.

But silly buggers like us enthusiasts will pay it...that's the kicker.

I'm sure the Sultan of Brunai has several on order already.

For an Extra 20k id expect Lasers, Jet engine like in Batman, Rocket Launchers, Fighter Jet wings, a Blonde bimbo on 24/7 call out to me, and a Big red button that destroyed all Chav's and there Saxos XD

Rant over XD

Price is all speculation anyway. Other reports are saying sub £50k, and others say no more than £55k GBP and $80k USD for the U.S market.

..and they reckon at least £45k on the road price for a personal import on the GTR forums.

No more than £4k to make the changes first time and then the UK spec parts will be fitted in Japan like they are for a X-Trail or like the Jspec bits fitted to the Micra's before they are shipped to Japan. Would end up not costing only a couple of hundred pounds different. Then the TV/Satnav rubbish is inly going to cost a grand max difference. The rest is just Tax and rip off UK.

Just the same with Porsche or anything. I know a lad who bought his Brand New UK spec 997 Turbo S from Holland. He ordered it as UK spec paid for it and imported it into the UK and Save £23K after paying duty.

It is all down to rip off Britain and wanting big margins.

So can if I was to buy one, what is the best way? Personal import? Where would I get it from?
