Hi all,

i fitted a autometer boost gauge last night and found im only geting 7psi of boost, from the searches ive done most people say this is safteyboost!

now i know the knock sensor can put you in this mode but ive check the ecu fault codes and only get code 55,but when i first got the car i was getting the code for knock sensor but after sorting some other issues i dont get that code anymore,

so is their anything else i should check or anyone no what else can cause saftey boost,

Cheers guys , wayne

Ok, Mine has the same. I fitted a boost guage and discovered im in safety boost. If you can find someone with a conzult it would really help.

I checked....

Thermostat / water temp sensor

Det sensor

Boost solenoids / waste gates opening correctly

all boost pipes in case of a leak

changed the ECU (incase of internal fault)

Turned out the boost solenoids are not getting power and its not my ECU so that pointed to an engine wiring loom problem on mine.

im not changing the loom but fitting an aftermarket boost controller to bypass the wiring to the boost solenoid. Then i can have it off 7psi, low 10psi and high 14psi

umm soon as i get the chance i'll see if the boost soleniods are working or plugged in,are there 2 soleniods 1 each side?

im in the middle of making a boost leak detector so i'll check the 2

I would also redo the ECU check again, but after taking the car for a blast and then without switching ignition completely off.

Code34 is reset with the ignition off.

may be a silly question, but i only have standard gauge at the moment, where should the needle pont to if its running ok, mine is a j spec with the -7 and +7 gauge and it goes to the second mark after the 0, is this ok cos it still pulls like a train.

Should go just past the solid line, for both Jap(-7 to +7) and UK (-14 to +14)

but the gauge is very inaccurate so I would'nt pay too much attention to it. You need an aftermarket gauge really.

thats exactly where mine stops ,

yep thats where mine stops too, i'll have to get an aftermarket gauge to test it properly, i aint got any smoke and its running perfect so asfar as i know it ok but duffers is gettin it in april anyway for a 120k service, so he can check it, lol.

thanks for the advice Legrath

i did the code check again the way you said and still get code 55, so i unplugged the sensor went up the road and it only went to 5 psi that time plugged it back in and got 7, so i had a look at the boost soleniods and theres power getting to them i unplugged them and still only 7 psi, do you think the boost soleniods or shafted?
