Thinking of rebuilding my spare gearbox with ratio to get the best from my choice of turbos GT28RS - can anyone suggest directions to go in? Needs to be strong enough to take the grunt and get the best accleration out of the engine.

Cheers, Ste

Hi Ste

I think you find that the new third and fourth gear clusters and syncro are actually more expensive than buying a complete Brand new box which has already got the uprated items installed.

Though if you can find cheeper uprated alternatives I'd love to know as I've 2 boxes that need 4th gear syncro sorting.

PS have you got that exhaust system off yet. :slap: ;)

Ah nuts, i read your pm the other day! I'm waiting for space at my dads as i think my lwb might of been sold as soon as thats gone i'll be able to use the pit back there! i'll give you a pm as soon as done! busy busy at work etc.

Hmm, yeah i know i was thinking that first could be longer because i'd assume with a higher output engine first gear would be mearly moving the car from a standstill, worse than standard. But once first is changed the rest of the gears will need changing.

Musing the idea of a sequential, based on a motorbike style? i prob assume they don't exist, has anyone ever had a go at designing one and getting a prototype made up? (I know there very intricate)

Ste.

Quaife will build you a sequential box to what ever ratio's you want. I enquire about this during my tweeking madness and they quoted me £3K including bellhousing.

No worrier about the System as little Red is of to be jigged next week and i may end up putting a my old TT lump in it yet. (After a full rebuild of course)

That's not all that unreasonable for a proper sequential box, do you have any electronic info on this? will have to look into it.

My email is stephen.northwood@uk.ngrid.com if you have an emails etc, if you could forward them!

£3k - thats a bargain for a sequential setup !

I'll have a dig tomorrow and find the info i got. It's 2 and a bit years old but i can't see it being too much different in price. Also that was to have a transmition tunnel mounted shifter not included as I never made my mind up. + I was going to use the car most days and decided that it would be alittle impractical.

They said it would be based on a 5 speed box used for the Sierra Coswerth and would also require a seperate reversing box which was quoted at £600 ish.

Also Tran-X said they'd be able to beef up the existing Box or build a full sequential box for not too disimilar a price. Think he said something about using a 5 speed rocket box. Tran-X may be good people to talk to about uprated clusters cheeper than the OS giken or Nismo options.

P.S. this was just the Gearbox and bits I've mentioned. Any modification etc needed was never discussed or researched.
