Hello Zeddrivers,

I want to paint the black plastic inside the headlights in carcolour.

Does anyone know the best version to "put the headlights in it´s single parts"? (don´t know the optimal words :wack: )

Someone told me, I get the glued parts opened with a heater (maybe the

oven at 50 degrees celsius), but I don´t want do destroy anything.

I don´t have any idea how the HL look inside (the mechanic parts)

Can you help me?

Thanks a lot, Patrick

Patrick,

If you remove the headlight units from the car you can take it apart by undoing the various screws holding in the rubber. Then you need to heat the seal between the glass and plastic with a heater (a hair dryer will do). When the adhesive is warm you can CAREFULLY split the glass from the plastic by using some screwdrivers. Start in a corner and work your way around. Once you have separated the headlight you can remove the plastic insert (two small screws at the front) and paint it. While you have the headlight apart you should also clean the inside of the glass parts (don't forget the inside of the projector sphere).

Good luck.

Dan

PS - I DO NOT recommend putting the headlight in the oven at 50 degrees C. You're likely to destroy the headlight and the oven will smell for a long time! ;)

Dan quick question for you. I quite like the idea of colour coding rather than chrome, if i do that will normal 2k laquer be ok??? To simplify :wack: will it be ok if i paint the inserts the same way i would paint the car? Cheers.

Thanks alot Dan, thought I have to remove also the parts behind - fine!

To ZX-Eyes: There are special "groundings"(for example simple sprays) for plastic.

For best results.

Thanks again, dan

I did mine with wheel silver and a coat of laquer, all aerosols and i have Hid,s , no heat issues at all

As for prising the glass up using screw drivers :nono: much safer to use a paint scraper or anything with a wide blade , far less chance of chipping or cracking the glass
