Went to their showroom the other day to look at a Mitsubishi GTO and A Nissan 300ZX as I am trying to decide between the 2. Looked at a few cars in there. They all seemed to be fresh imports with little to no service history and dubious mileages. Things got worse, with the guy in charge seeming to know little about his cars and he was even unable to start one ZX when demonstrating it to me. Things however got much worse.

After talking to him for about 30 mins about one automatic ZX TT I suggested I take it out for a test drive. He seemed reluctant so I agreed to let one of his employees take me instead. After the battery running flat once more, we were finally on our way. Everything seemed OK - other than a light popping from the exhaust. Then we pulled out onto the A650 and headed towards Bradford city centre. After a few minutes crusing at 30, the guy put his foot down, presumably to sell me on the power of the car. Within a second he had lost the back end and crashed us head on into the railings between the 2 carriageways. The car spun 180 and finished straddling all 3 lanes of the A650 - a total write off. I can only thank God we were only doing about 50 and that the other traffic managed to stop in time! Moral to this story - if the place looks dodgy, sounds dodgy and won't let you drive yourself - steer well clear... At least if you value your life!!!

On a serious note - are they really that hard to handle? I mean in a straight line he was going here! Really has made me think that the 4WD traction controlled GTO would be a better option

GTO is the preffered option if you are a novice.

Proper drivers much prefer the Zed ! :x:

Alan.............

What a tard! Glad you're ok, could of gone really bad. Really no need to be showing you it's power like that. I'd also say it was a little early to go pushing the turbos that early on a cold engine. As for them being difficult to handle? It's not something you just jump straight into. Just requires a little care, as with most powerful rear wheel drives.

End of the day it's down to how you drive an knowing your own limits as well as the cars. It also has the 4 wheel steering an i'm sure it's more advanced than that of the GTO (ppl correct me if i'm wrong)

I'd say it's a good handling car. Very much a point an shoot thing. Several times i've had the back step out. but it was not much bother to correct. Mine is an auto tt, an without paying attention on a corner, foot a little further down than needed....it kicks down an off you go lol. Must admit, i do quite like the sudden ruch of fear, then i've been driving rwd since i was young. Don't get me a fwd...i'm shite lol.

Anyway, don't let some numpty put you off due to his lack of skill's an brains. Just go back an slap him for killing a poor innocent zed

You should of taken the Mitsa GTO out first and saved the ZED. Cowboy's.

The 300zx is no more hard to handle than any other 300bhp rear wheel drive car........

.........but it is important to make sure the car is shod with very good quality tyres. If the car is a fresh import, the chances are that it was still on the crap Japanese tyres and they were probably worn to buggery as well.

Glad you are OK though mate.

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

no mate they really arent that hard to handle - in fact they handle quite well - they have to be treated with respect but then any 300bhp rear wheel car would -

i suggest i crap driver probably with low tyre pressures if its been sitting in a garage for a while -

regards,

alex

TBH mate in a straight line they are a piece of pi55 to drive. In the corners they are too you just have to not go flying round like you would in fwd or gwd (gash wheel drive).

Ivan

I agree about the tyre pressures, If one side is low and the others not it will always start to spin around the soft one... Thats experience from the Zed and a couple of Granada Cossies and it only needs to 1lb of pressure out to have an effect
